Rahim and Roofus walked with Nelson and Bernard, the scheduler, at the local market in West Wahah dome. They went from stall to stall, looking at goods imported from the entire Rim.
“Can youz believe this?” Bernard exclaimed, picking up an apple. “This is a real live apple! I’ve never had a real apple in my life!” He licked his lips and asked the vendor, “How much is this?”
“505 DICs,” the bot replied without looking up.
“I just want one, not the entire bag,” Bernard said.
“Good citizen. The price I quoted was for one single apple,” the bot responded with equanimity.
Bernard’s mouth dropped, “I can buy 500 syn-apples for that. Five hundred.” He carefully replaced the apple back into the pile.
