Completely ignoring the directions that Irene gave her, Shayla made a beeline toward the Iris dome, and then, the nuevobotanica building. She did not trust Irene. The bot belonged to the E.C., and Irene was only to be with Shayla, until her contract expired. Irene was also compelled to reveal any pertinent information to the management. When Shayla first joined the corporation, her father, her baba, had warned her to read every single thing she signed. Thankful that she had heeded his cautions, she was no longer shocked at how much control the E.C. exerted over its citizens. She had deliberately chosen a bot that would be surly, but as efficient as an amiable one, so that she would never think of it as her friend.
