Seline sat on the couch, the train of her dress pulled around her body so it wouldn't dangle. The gala started an hour ago and Nick was nowhere to be seen.
Seline felt tears welling up in her eyes but she quickly forced them back.
This is not a repeat of prom. This is not a repeat of prom. She said in her head.
Standing up straight she let her train fall towards the ground. She looked lovingly down at her dress. It was a teel colored high-low, the neckline dipped down to her clevage and she wore three inch dark blue peep toes.
Dialing Nick's number she scowled as his voice answered.
"Hello." He said, huskily.
"Where the f**k are you?" She screamed.
"Hold on, hold on. What do you mean?" He asked.
"The gala, Nick!" She screamed again.
"Ohh yeah! I'll be there with the limo in thirty minutes!" He said.
"No. No you won't. Whatever or whoever you're with was more important then showing up to get me on time and standing me up. I'll drive my truck, thank you very much Nicholas." She said, ice lacing every word.
"Seline please-" He started, but Seline hung up the phone and grabbed her keys.
Almost an hour
later Seline pulled into the driveway and handed her keys to the valet. The few mingling women around the door, watched her as she went in, gawking at her car being pulled away.
She smirked at them and tightened her hold on the black clutch she was holding.
The man at the door swung it open for her and she stepped in, the quick burst of air throwing her hair around her face wildly.
She walked quickly to the side and found a table. Two men and a woman sat around the table talking. They instantly stopped when Seline sat down.
The men stared at her clevage and the woman smiled warmly.
"Hey." She said.
"Hey, I'm Charlotte."
"Seline." She said.
"Hi Seline, this is Adam, and Charlie."
She motioned towards the two men still staring at her chest.
"Eyes up here." Seline motioned.
The blonde, Adam, snapped his gaze up to meet Seline's eyes and she melted at the look of his bright green eyes.
Charlie, the man with a buzzcut, stared for one last minute and looked up warmly at Seline.
"Charlie!" Charlotte said as she slapped his arm.
"What?" He said.
"Stop staring at her." Charlotte snapped.
"Mad?" He said.
"No." Char lied. "We're just FWB's, remember." She huffed, turning away from him.
Seline turned her attention away from their bickering and stared back at the man named Adam.
"Who you here with?" He drawled in a country accent.
"Well he's not here, but Nicholas Andrews."
"Really?"
"Yeah, sadly."
"Well if you're so sad, let's dance." Adam said.
"Well-" Seline started.
"Don't say no." He pleaded.
"Your country accent convinced me." Seline said smiling.
Adam took hold of her hand and led her towards the dance floor.
Nick walked into the ballroom and scanned the crowd for Seline. He noticed Char and Charlie sitting at a table and he strided towards them, pulling up an empty seat.
"Aye Nicky!" Char said, looking a bit tipsy.
"Hey Char." Nick said.
"Charlie." Nick nodded towards him.
"Hey. Who ya looking for?" He said.
"Seline. Pretty girl, bright blue eyes. Seen her?" He asked.
"Seline? She's so pretty! She sat here and talked and then Adam asked her to dance." Char said, hiccupping.
"Yeah they've been dancing for about twenty minutes." Charlie said pointing towards the dance floor. Nick turned towards Charlie's finger and followed it out to where Seline and Adam danced, closely with her arms around his neck and her fingers tapering with the hair on his neck.
They looked into each other's eyes and Seline laughed at something Adam said. Nick felt a burning in his chest and he shot out of his chair. He quickly walked towards them and Adam stepped a micro step away as soon as he saw Nick.
"Seline, what are you doing?" Nick asked, anger apparent in his voice.
"Dancing." She answered him, her eyes becoming icy.
"You're supposed to be here with me." He said.
"Well I'm not right now am I? Too bad someone was too busy to be on time, isn't it babe?" She said, talking to Nick like a child. Nick's anger flared up and he stepped towards Seline. Adam quickly stepped in front of her and looked Nick straight in the eyes.
"Next time we won't be late, now will we Nicholas?" He said. Then he turned around grabbing hold of Seline's arm and led her away. Seline turned one last glance towards Nick. Nick felt a stabbing as he realised what he had made her feel.
Hatred towards him.
