Chapter 7: Mixed Feelings

1007 Words
Three Days Later ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Immaculate University. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Kian was standing on the rooftop, looking down at the students from above. A small smile played on his lips as he thought about how much his life had changed in just three days. He no longer stepped into Alpha's Villa. He stayed in his own house now, free. And in that short time, he had made two new friends — Knox and Damon. Damon was cool, no doubt. ‎ ‎ ‎ Footsteps approached from behind. ‎ ‎ ‎ He turned. It was Catherine. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “What are you doing here?” he mumbled. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “Nothing. I saw you here, so I decided to check up on you,” she said with a small, sheepish smile. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “Check on me? Wow. Aren’t we supposed to be enemies?” he muttered. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “Yeah… but I know you aren’t like your brother,” she replied softly. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “So what do you want?” Kian asked quickly, turning fully to face her. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “You.” She said it boldly. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “Me?” His brows furrowed. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “Don’t you get it?” Catherine asked, stepping closer, her hand reaching up to touch his face. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “Yeah, I don’t.” Kian removed her hand gently. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “I like you,” she said. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “I don’t.” His answer was cold, and he walked away. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “f**k!” Catherine cursed under her breath, standing there alone on the rooftop. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ --- ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ The Small Cottage, Noon ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ After lectures, Adeline stepped down from her car and walked toward the cottage, clutching Kian’s hoodie in her hand. She wanted to return it, to get it off her chest. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Inside, the place was empty. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “Where the heck is this hooded guy?” she muttered. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “Looking for me?” Kian’s voice came from the doorway. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ She turned quickly. “Yeah… I wanted to return this to you,” she said, holding the hoodie out. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “No need. I don’t wear what someone else has worn. You can keep it,” he replied, his tone cold, almost careless. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “Okay. Thanks… for the other day,” she said quietly. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "I guess I will take my leave" she said about leaving . ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “But wait,” she said, turning back. Her voice sharpened. “Why didn’t you tell me you were an Alpha?” ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Kian’s gaze locked on her. “I didn’t see the need to.” ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “Oh, so that’s it? That’s the reason you came here?” he asked, his eyes narrowing. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “Well, you not telling me you were an Alpha cost me a lot. But no worries.” She waved the hoodie slightly. “Since you don’t need it, I might as well throw it away. Honestly, I don’t even know what to do with it.” ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Her voice cracked with hidden anger, but she didn’t wait for his response. She spun on her heels and walked out of the cottage. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Kian stood frozen, watching the empty doorway long after she’d gone. His jaw tightened, but not out of anger—something else he couldn’t admit to himself. His hand twitched as if to call her back, but he shoved it into his pocket instead. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “Damn it,” he muttered under his breath, shaking his head. Why should he care if she was angry? Why should it matter at all? ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Yet, as the faint echo of her footsteps faded, he caught himself staring at her shadow . His chest felt heavier than he wanted to admit. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ He scoffed, turning away sharply. “It’s nothing,” he whispered to himself. But deep down, he knew it wasn’t nothing. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ --- ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Morningstar’s Condo – ‎ ‎ Adeline’s Room (Night) ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ The house was quiet, the kind of silence that carried secrets. Cathrine tiptoed into Adeline’s room, her steps careful, her breath held. She knew Adeline had just left—probably to Mandy’s place—so the coast was clear. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ As usual, she went straight to the wardrobe, fingers already twitching with the thought of borrowing a few clothes. She pulled out a blouse, a skirt, tossing them carelessly on the bed. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Then something dark caught her eye. A hoodie. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ She frowned, picking it up. It wasn’t Adeline’s style. Heavy, rough, and slightly oversized. She ran her hand across the fabric, trying to place where she’d seen it before. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ It hit her suddenly. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Kian’s hoodie. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Her breath hitched, and she froze for a second, staring at it like it carried a curse. What was Kian’s hoodie doing in Adeline’s room? ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ A storm of thoughts raced through her mind. Did Adeline know him? How? Why? What exactly was going on between them? ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ She bit her lip, confusion twisting into suspicion. Clutching the hoodie tightly, she quietly closed the wardrobe, took the few clothes she stole and slipped out of the room, the question burning hotter in her chest with every step: ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Why does Adeline have Kian’s hoodie? ‎
