DYLAN LINCOLN. The stealer clung onto me and I wasn’t expecting a reaction but I couldn’t deny that she caught me by surprise when she did that. It was unexpected and also the first time that someone wouldn’t be affected by my strong aura and the curse that I’ve had to deal with for years. The way she held onto me like I was her last hope for survival made my heart stop for a moment as I looked down to see her looking up at me with apologetic eyes. My mouth opened but the last thing I could think to come up with were actual words as I stated deeply into her eyes. How is she able to hold me? Why is the curse not affecting her? “I’m sorry, Alpha Dylan,” my beta, Irving apologized with a bow, he seemed almost as shocked as I was as the entire market square fell silent. “I’ll get her off—” His words trailed off and were replaced with a painful groan when he tried to get close to me but was affected by the intense mana that I released. No one, not even the strongest of werewolves could come in close contact with me, they all either drop dead if they don’t have enough mana and those with enough mana get paralyzed for a specific amount of time. But this girl, she’s different, she did not only get in a close space with me, she’s holding me. I could feel her arms around me, I could hear her breathing and the fact that she’s in my arms, looking at me with tear filled eyes was enough to let me know that she was still alive. But how is this possible? Irving had tried to come close and is now writhing in pain on the floor. Pulling her an inch away from me, my eyes carefully scrutinized her and I still couldn’t wrap my head around how she was able to touch me with such low mana. What is she? Is she a witch? Resting my hand on her chin, I lifted it so that our eyes met, an action that led to my undoing because the way her eyes intently looked into mine, as if peering into my soul made me feel a twinge in my chest. All the werewolves that had been attacking and harassing her earlier froze, they wouldn’t dare come towards me unless they all had a death wish. “What are you?” I asked, hiding my interest in her and masking it with disgust because someone as lowly as she seems should never touch me. She opened her mouth to speak but she’s probably still in too much shock to let a word out. I was willing to wait, to give her as much time as she needed to recover from her shock. “A— Al— Alpha Dylan,” One of the men that were once all over her called my name, grabbing my attention, “she’s not worth even a second of your time.” He added. My brows raised and if I wasn’t trying to find out more about this girl, I would have had his head right at my feet because even he isn’t supposed to talk to me especially when I haven’t said anything to him. “Yes. Yes.” The hoards of men that had been swarming around her all said in unison. I could tell that they were all trying to suppress their desire and the fact that she was now with me was helping. “She’s useless! A mute! A jinx and she should be banished to the forbidden forest!” Another man said as his disgust for her was evident in the way he spoke. “She was the one who ruined the pack celebration with her stealer aura! She deserves to be killed!” They all said spitefully. I could feel her gaze on me, it was boring holes into my face and it didn’t take long for me to return my gaze to her and that was when I realized that she had let go of the tears that were welled up in her eyes. A glazed look of despair began to show on her face as she shook her head desperately to disregard what the men and people of the pack had said about her. I hate to admit it but seeing her cry immediately became the last thing that I wanted to see. Tears glistened on her pale face as she gulped hard and kept shaking her head really hard. It was clear that she was scared and when my arm around her back tightened, she gasped, realizing a shiver of panic as she tried to no avail to explain herself. She didn’t need to explain herself, I knew why she had rushed towards me. She was just trying to escape from the siege of male werewolves and didn’t expect to run right into my arms. She should know, stories about me had spread across thousands of packs and she should know that no one can get this close to me. Why did she take the risk? A sudden stir awakened in me, causing my eyes to widen as she kept gesturing in an attempt to explain herself to me. My head hurt so much and heat began coursing through my body. This can’t be happening. It has never happened before. Hurriedly, I pushed her so far away from me that she staggered and hit the ground. Her eyes were begging me to have mercy but that was also the last thing I could have on her. I didn’t need a mate like her, I didn’t need a mute, an invalid as my mate. My ideal mate is most definitely not her. “I have no use for a mute, invalid and useless woman like yourself!” I barked harshly and the anger I’d emitted caused the ground to rumble. She cried as she shivered but I only shot her a cold, ruthless glare before turning around to leave. As soon as I walked away from her, I could tell that her stealer aura that had been suppressed when she was with me had surfaced again and the male werewolves were starting to make her their prey. I watched lazily as several werewolves with gas masks ran past me to approach her. Their job was to maintain the order and catch her so she wouldn’t drive more men crazy. “Alpha Dylan!” A loud, unusual voice called out to me, causing me to stop in my tracks as I turned to look at her. She’s been caught already and was about to be scavenged by lusty, perverted male werewolves but they all seemed shocked that she had called my name. Didn’t they say she’s a mute? “Help, please!” Her voice was starting to go lower and I could feel the effort she put into making sure that I heard her voice. “I want to live!”
