NOT YOUR SISTER.

My mother tried to smooth things over, laughing nervously. “Don’t worry, sweetheart,” she said, her hand brushing Aaron’s arm. “She understands. It will take time for everyone to get along. No need to rush things.” Aaron frowned. “But you are my wife now. My mate. The Luna of this pack. He needs to understand that and give you the respect you deserve.” “I know,” my mom replied quickly. “But you have to give them time. They’ll adapt to us soon. You know kids.” Before I could say anything, a tall figure stepped forward with a warm smile. He stretched out his hand toward me. “You must be Wendy?” I froze, hesitant. I wasn’t sure how to greet him properly. He was so handsome that I couldn’t believe this alpha was my stepbrother. “Welcome to the family, and to the Pure Bloodline pack,” he said kindly. “I’m Aiden Grimwolf.” I softly took his hand. “I’m Wendy Nightshade.” But my mother quickly corrected me with a tight smile. “Wendy Grimwolf, not Nightshade, Wendy.” Aiden laughed lightly, brushing it off. “That doesn’t matter.” He focused on me. “Feel at home, Wendy.” “Thank you, Alpha Aiden,” I answered politely, smiling. He chuckled and crouched down in front of me so I didn’t have to strain my neck to look up at him. “No need to be so formal. Just Aiden is fine. You’re my little sister now, so feel free around here.” His gentle words, paired with the softness in his expression, eased some of my nerves. I hadn’t meant to sound formal, it was just respect. I was an Omega, after all, speaking to an Alpha of such a powerful pack. Soon, the others came to greet me as well. Most did it quickly, their expressions stiff and distant, their pheromones cold. They didn’t really want to welcome me, I could feel it. What if the rest of them hated me too? What if I could never belong here? Part of me wanted to stay locked in a room and avoid them all, but I reminded myself of my mother’s words: it would take time for us to adapt. Not everyone was bad. Maybe, just maybe, we’d get along. For the first time in years, I allowed myself to hope again. Maybe I had finally found a home. A place with no fighting, no abuse, no pain. After the introductions, my stepfather invited us for lunch. Aiden pulled out a chair for me, gently settling me in. My legs dangled above the ground as he pushed the chair closer to the table. “Are you comfortable?” he asked with a smile. I nodded, beaming. “Yes, thank you.” “You’re welcome, Wendy.” He grinned, sitting across from me. As everyone ate quietly, Aaron glanced at me. “Do you like the food, Wendy?” “Yes, Alpha Aaron. I love it.” “From now on, call me father,” he said warmly. “We’re family now. No need to be formal.” My heart softened at his words. “Thank you… father.” He laughed and patted my head. “That’s my little girl.” His kindness struck me. He was the father I had always wished for. But my fragile sense of peace shattered when a harsh voice cut through the room. “What are you doing here?” Chills ran down my spine. I turned to see him. Lykan. The young alpha, who had stormed upstairs earlier. His dark, cold eyes made my stomach twist. “Who put you next to me?” His voice dripped with disgust. “Don’t you have your own chair to sit on?” “I-I’m sorry,” I stammered. I didn’t even know why I was apologizing, only that his presence scared me. His glare was just like my father when he was furious. “I didn’t mean to…I just—” “Where are your table manners, Lykan?” Aiden whispered sharply. “Keep it down.” “Keep what down?” Lykan snapped. “Don’t tell me you were the one who let her sit here. There are plenty of seats. Why is she next to me?” “I didn’t mean it,” Aiden said evenly. “Get her away from me,” Lykan growled. “I don’t want a f*****g Omega sitting close to me.” “Lykan!” Aaron’s fork clattered against the table as his glare froze the room. “Do you have any idea how much you’ve disrespected me today?” “Father, don’t worry about it—” Aiden started, hesitating. “Stop defending him,” Aaron snapped, his eyes on Lykan. “Respect—” “I’m an Alpha, father,” Lykan spat, cutting him off. “Not a Beta, not an Omega. If she sits next to me, I go out of control. Whose fault will it be then?” The table went silent. My mother pushed her chair back as though ready to intervene. Lykan’s gaze turned back to me, sharp and merciless. “Get the f**k up before I do it for you, brat.” “Lykan!” Aaron roared, standing to his feet. “Don’t make me repeat myself. She is your sister, and this woman is the Luna of this pack. You’d better behave yourself before I make you.” Lykan’s expression twisted with hatred. “She will never be my sister. And her mother will never be mine. I already have a mother. One who runs her own pack. I never asked for this family you created for your selfish interests. Don’t expect me to accept them.” “Lykan—” Aaron warned. But Lykan’s eyes locked on me again. “Didn’t you hear me, brat? Get up.” Before I could move, he shoved me forward. My chest slammed against the edge of the table. It hurt. It hurt so much my heart ached, my stomach twisted, and I thought I might be sick. I got a little scared and wished I wasn't here.
