Chapter 12: Do You Have Thirty Children?

Vandy paused momentarily and glanced at his son's face, his voice soft as he said, "You are not sick, it's just a physical examination." Rex pouted in grievance. Did his father think he was a fool? This was the twentieth doctor they were visiting, yet his father insisted he wasn't sick. Unaware of his son's thoughts, Vandy was focused solely on locating Doctor Sia as soon as possible. Carrying Rex in his arms, Vandy asked his assistant, Shan, who was walking beside him, "Where did they say she is?" Shan responded promptly, "She's at Simile Children Park on Haily Broadway." Vandy paused and shot a faintly skeptical glance at Shan. With Doctor Sia's clout and fame, she should be an older woman. What was she doing in a children's park? Sensing Vandy's doubt, Shan quickly explained, "I believe she brought her grandchildren out to play." This explanation seemed more plausible. Vandy tucked Rex into the car and fastened his seatbelt before walking around to sit beside him. The convoy sped out of the mansion, and after a forty-minute drive, they arrived at the children's park. The cars pulled over at the parking lot. As they got out of the car, a sweating man in a T-shirt bearing the park's logo, jeans, and sneakers approached them and greeted respectfully, "Sir Vandy." He had been informed of Vandy's arrival by the park owner and had left everything he was doing to wait at the parking lot, standing under the blazing summer sun to show his sincerity. "Are you the manager?" Vandy asked, expressionless. Nodding vigorously, the manager replied, "Yes, Sir Vandy. Should I close the park so your child can play?" Vandy looked at the cheerful voices and happy faces of children and parents, especially the excited screams from the merry-go-rounds. He couldn't bear to give such an instruction. "No need. Shan will handle it," Vandy said, turning to open the car door for his son. He no longer paid attention to the manager after Shan took over. "Are you going to spend the whole day inside the car?" Vandy forced a smile, trying to make his cold voice gentle as he spoke to his son. Rex pouted and refused to respond. He felt as if he had been practically kidn*pped and brought to the park against his will. "I'll buy you a private jet. Just give Daddy a smile," Vandy promised seriously, believing money could solve everything. Assistant Shan, who had just finished negotiating a donation to the park and acquiring some shares in Rex's name, almost stumbled when he heard his boss's words. The memory of Vandy emptying all the car warehouses in the city to placate a crying three-year-old Rex was still vivid. Now, his boss was threatening to buy a private jet for a six-year-old. "I don't want to play," Rex pouted. "I'll call someone to get you a private jet. What color would you like?" Vandy asked softly, looking at his son inside the car. Rex shuddered and quickly got out of the car, clutching his dad's trousers. "No, don't buy one. I don't want it." Vandy looked at his son, patted his head gently, and put his phone away. Taking Rex's hand, he led him toward the swings area, where plenty of kids and their parents were playing. Squatting to his son's height, Vandy looked at him earnestly and said, "I want you to grow up like other children, have fun, and behave like a child your age." Rex blinked and asked, "Is that why you brought me here?" Patting his head, Vandy affirmed, "Smart kid." Rex's lips twitched slightly. Straightening up, Vandy turned and noticed a child around Rex's age running around happily. He turned back to Rex and said, "You should be running around carefree, happy, and experiencing the beauty of childhood." Just then, the child Vandy had been observing stumbled and fell, letting out an ear-piercing cry. Vandy frowned as the child's mother rushed over, revealing his tear-streaked face, covered in snot and bawling loudly. Rex glanced up at his father's disgusted expression and asked tentatively, "Like this?" Rendered speechless, Vandy's lips twitched. He gestured for his assistant, Shan, to take over and headed toward the ice cream stand. The weather was too hot. Taking out his phone, he dialed a number while walking. "Where is she?" he asked coldly when the call connected. A voice from the speaker responded, "Sir, we are having difficulty locating the actual person..." Cutting the person off, Vandy interjected coldly, "If you fail to locate her, you will lose 50% of your salary." Ending the call, he put his phone away and continued towards the ice cream stand. Those who were ahead of him in line immediately stepped aside. Vandy thought nothing of it, assuming this was how things should be. Unbeknownst to him, his grumpy expression, which made it seem like everyone owed him money, had scared the other people in the queue away. "Sir, what flavor would you like?" the nervous man at the ice cream stand asked, as if addressing a superior who could easily get him fired. Having never bought ice cream before, Vandy thought seriously but ended up saying helplessly, "All the flavors in your store." A melodious, childish voice chimed in innocently, "Hello handsome, why do you want so many flavors? Do you have thirty children?" Hearing the childish voice, Vandy looked down to see an adorable little girl who appeared to be around his son's age. Normally, he would have ignored the child, but he felt compelled to patiently explain, "It's just for my son. I don't know which flavor he'll like." The reason he didn't ask Rex was because he knew his son's temperament; Rex wouldn't respond. Blinking her dark eyes, the little girl offered, "You don't need to buy the whole store. I can help you." Vandy considered her offer and then agreed, "Thank you, little girl." The girl pouted and corrected him anxiously, "I'm not a little girl. My name is Riri. Riri is adorable, Riri is pretty, Riri is big baby's moon." Amused by Riri's childish proclamation, Vandy chuckled and said, "Alright, Riri. Help me pick the ice cream." He pulled his phone from his pocket and stepped aside to allow Riri to speak to the man taking orders at the ice cream store. Vandy demanded directly without waiting for the receiver to speak, "Take me to where she is."
