Chapter 10: I am parthenogenesis

1002 Words
Rex's eyes widened in shock. He had seen kids being brought to school by their moms and dads. How come he didn't have a mother? That was impossible. "Then how was I born? You didn't get pregnant, did you?" Rex asked suspiciously. He had read in his anatomy books that only women could get pregnant. With an expressionless face, Vandy replied, "I impregnated myself and gave birth to you. I am both your mother and father. You don't need a mother." Vandy's face remained impassive, unembarrassed by the absurdity of his claim. Rex's eyes widened even more, looking so adorable that he could melt anyone's heart. Assistant Shan, standing nearby, was almost moved to tears, silently reprimanding his boss for being so cruel to such a pretty little boy. "Dad, you're not parthenogenesis, right?" Rex asked, his face filled with disbelief. Without hesitation or giving his son's words any thought, Vandy readily agreed, "I am parthenogenesis." He then patted Rex's head. "Be good. Let me take you to school." Gritting his teeth in anger, Rex retorted unhappily, "No, I want my mom to take me to school." Vandy straightened his back. He had no intention of forcing his son to go to school and readily agreed, "Alright." As he walked away with a cold expression, Assistant Shan, who was walking beside him, gave the headmaster and the teacher responsible for ruining his boss's mood that morning a moment of silence. Once they were inside the car, Vandy looked at Assistant Shan and demanded, "Get me a pen and a piece of paper." Assistant Shan promptly opened the briefcase, retrieving a pen and paper, and handed them to Vandy. "Here it is, Sir Vandy." Taking the items, Vandy began to write without saying a word, his face still expressionless. He filled the paper and then handed it to Assistant Shan. "Take this to his school," he instructed. "Make sure the headmaster and my son's teacher read it before the parents and pupils, one after the other, as an opening speech. They should also read it before the break and make it the closing speech. When you're done, hurry back and meet me at the company." Having finished giving his instructions, Vandy gestured for his secretary to take over from Assistant Shan. Assistant Shan handed the briefcase to the secretary and read through the paper written by his boss. The more he read, the more the corners of his mouth twitched wildly. What he was reading was worse than self-scolding. It stated that a man could give birth to a child, that a child doesn't need a mother to celebrate Mother's Day, and that as long as a child has a father, there's no need to ask for or have a mother. Was this not directly calling oneself a retard? "They are so pitiful. They dared to make Sir Vandy's son unhappy," Assistant Shan thought, feeling only pity for Rex's teacher and headmaster. Vandy drove away from the mansion in his convoy, furious that his son had chosen the woman who had dumped him instead of him. After a forty-minute drive, he arrived at his company. The Hill Corporation occupied a vast expanse of land in the heart of the city, with office buildings that were both imposing and impressive, a testament to its status as one of the corporate giants in the world. As he alighted from his car, a group of men approached and greeted him, "Sir Vandy." Already in a foul mood, Vandy replied curtly, "Let's head to the boardroom. There are a few matters I need to address." The board members, who had come to welcome him at his private parking lot, were taken aback. Why was their boss angry? Had his son upset him again? They began to sweat, fearing the inevitable ordeal awaiting them in the boardroom. Whenever his son provoked him at home, Vandy never lashed out at the boy; instead, the board members bore the brunt of his anger. The news of Sir Vandy's foul mood quickly spread throughout the company. All the staff members were on their best behavior, working with renewed vigor, afraid of being singled out and dismissed. Who wanted to lose a well-paying job like this? Upon arriving at the boardroom, Vandy walked over to his executive chair and sat down, leaning back and tapping the armrest impatiently, his expression dark. The board members took their seats, looking anxious and nervous. "What are you waiting for? Let's review the mechanical machine we produced three years ago. I want to know why the blueprint wasn't followed strictly and why the machine turned out so ugly," Vandy said expressionlessly, fixing a cold stare on the supervisor who oversaw the project. The supervisor shuddered in fear, sweat drenching his back and forehead. He had forgotten about that project. He stood up and opened his mouth twice but couldn't utter a word. Vandy's aura was too overbearing, especially when he was angry. "Use the projector and explain why we invested billions of dollars and got such a disappointing innovation," Vandy gestured toward the floor. The supervisor, already nervous, stood on trembling legs. He looked at the projector speechlessly, hoping to escape the boardroom by claiming he didn't have the necessary materials. Before he could make his excuse, Vandy's secretary went over to the projector. A few minutes later, a large image appeared on the big whiteboard in the boardroom. "You can now explain," Vandy said, knocking on the table. The supervisor gulped nervously, his mind racing with thoughts of finding another job that could pay even half his current salary. Suddenly, the projector screen flickered, and everyone was astonished to see footage of Sir Vandy and his son. All the computers in the company were also displaying the scene between father and son from that morning, and the speakers throughout the building were broadcasting their voices loudly. The entire staff of the company held their breath as they heard their boss declare loudly, "I am parthenogenesis."
