7. Ilia

It's been six days since I brought that boy in. Six days of avoiding our hospital at all costs. I was well aware that Norvin and Vanya saw him, how could Alpha and a doctor not pay a visit to a rogue their Gamma brought, but if I wanted to play my act correctly I had to remain unfazed by his presence in the Harvest Moon. But something shifted in me that day. I still didn't want a Mate, and especially not a male one. I'm not a homophobe, but I just don't see guys that way, or at least that's what I thought. Because lately it has been more and more difficult to find myself a suitable date. I wasn't too picky in the past. I could bang anything starting from six and up, because as experience taught me, even those less appealing can be beasts in bed. But the two times I was in a bar since I found him, I wouldn't even score a single phone number. Not because girls weren't interested, because they were, but because I suddenly started seeing things that would make me walk the other way. So after the bar fiasco, I reconnected with my old friend - Wolfder. The app that got me more action than any Chuck Norris movie ever had. But once again, every picture I scrolled through was not what I was looking for. Too much gums, too high forehead, too square jaw for a girl, wrong eye color. It's like I was looking for something that was wrong with them. And after six days, I came back to the same point I went through after getting a blow job from a biter, to j*********f. f**k, that must be the level of pathetic my brother has on a daily basis. I told myself that everything would get back to normal once that guy is healed and out of my hair for good. But to make sure it happens, I have to see him one last time and cut all ties. With a heavy heart I strolled towards the Pack's hospital, the building located five minutes away from the Pack House, so I had a pretty good chance to not meet my brother, especially since I chose the lunchtime. He still doesn't know why I brought this boy in, and I'd like to keep it that way. Although, I'm sure that the nosy redhead might ask some questions, but the deal with Norvin is similar to my nephew, Orson, you just have to distract him with something else. I went straight to the Doctor's lounge, where I had the best chances to find Norvin. But I didn't even get there when I saw him standing by the ICU front desk, shamelessly flirting with a cute nurse, which was a perfect opportunity to have a little fun of my own. I rushed to his side, feigning being in a hurry with worried expression, panting and everything. "Oh, thank the Goddess, I caught you." - I said, clapping him on the back, and interrupting his conversation. Nor and the blonde nurse looked at me utterly confused. - "I need you to test me, I think that girl we both slept with gave me something. It burns when I pee, and the internet says it might be serious." I delivered an Academy Award winning performance and enjoyed every second of their flabbergasted faces morphing from confusion through shock all the way to silent anger on Norvin's side, and unhidden disgust on the nurse's face. She looked between the two of us, awkwardly brushed her hair behind her ear, and glanced right and left, probably looking for any sort of excuse to get the hell out of here. "Am… I have to check on the patient. I'm sorry." - she said and practically ran away disappearing behind the nearest corner, where I can bet she had no patients at all. Norvin watched her go, but when she was out of sight he turned to me with glare. "What the f**k was that?!" - he whisper-yelled, and if looks could kill, not even being in the hospital would save my life. "What? You can't be too mad at a small c**k blocking." - I said with a playful smirk. "I've been laying down the ground for weeks to ask her out, and you just… you… That's it! I'm telling Sasha!" - he hissed pointing his finger at me. That pitiful threat made me burst into laughter. "And what will my sister do to me? Is she even out of the hospital yet?" - I asked, crossing my arms challengingly. Norvin looked baffled for a moment and then his shoulders slumped. "Yeah, I wouldn't do that to her." - he said more to himself than he did to me. - "But you're still on my black list from now on." - he said, turning towards the Doctor's lounge. - "And to think that just a week ago I helped you like a true bro." - he said over his shoulder. I of course followed him, and blocked the door to the on-call room, before Norvin could slam them into my face. "What do you want Ilia? I think I used all the patience I have for today, so don't piss me off anymore." I went inside as casually as I could, perfecting my unbothered pose. "I wanted to ask how's the guy I brought here?" - I finally asked, but to pretend I didn't care, but only fulfilling my duties, I started flipping through some pamphlets they had laying around on the coffee table. "What guy?" - Nor asked, and I could feel his eyes on me. "The one from six days ago, who I found in our new territory." - I explained with a shrug. There was a moment of silence, so I dropped the pamphlet and turned to Nor, who for some reason, had the biggest s**t eating grin on his face. "That's not a guy, dude. It was a girl." - he announced. At first I thought we were talking about two different patients, but then I remembered how seriously Norvin takes his job. The man not only heals our people, but he knows a lot of useless facts about their lives, and if anything he would be the last person to mistake two wolves under his care. "What?! That's not possible. I brought in a young boy, more or less my age." "And how do you know it was a boy?" - he crossed his arms with a smirk, and thinking about his tone and that day I found him, I started doubting myself. - "Let me guess, because of short hair and her wounds?" - I did something between shrug and nod. - "So let me educate you, my friend. There are a few things determining gender, such as muscle tissue, body hair, genitals, and let's not forget about the Pandora box that comes with just a sample of one's blood. So yeah, as a doctor, and a man with eyes, I'm more than sure, my patient is actually a female." - he said in a tone that was meant to seem like the smartest guy in the room. In that case, he probably was, because how could I miss the fact that he was actually a she. But does it change anything? Not really. I still don't want a Mate, so that small discovery It's just an insignificant detail. "Alright, fine. You're probably right…" "No, no. I AM right." - he interrupted me. "Fine. You are right." - I admitted with a sigh, because there was no point in arguing with him. - "So is she still here?" "She is." - he nodded. - "It's actually your lucky day, because tomorrow I'm taking her to Midnight Banes." I furrowed my brows, because I saw no reason why my Mate, or after a few more minutes, ex Mate, should go to my sister's Pack. "Why?" - I asked. "She's looking for a place to stay, and Vanya spoke with Benson about her." A yes, that was so like my brother. He would help any stray that comes his way, if he only could. But on the other hand it's better if she'd live there than here. So maybe for once Vanya did something to help me out. " Fine. Whatever. So where can I find her?" - I asked. "Why?" - Norvin crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes. I swear to the Goddess, he's sometimes like a self-proclaimed detective just like my sister. "Isn't that what you're supposed to do after saving someone's life?" - I asked matter-of-factly. "Someone who cares, sure, but you're not the guy who cares about… well anything." "For your information I take my job very seriously." - I informed him, getting slightly annoyed by this exchange. Maybe I shouldn't have spoil his chances with the nurse, he should definitely get laid. He watched me with disbelief for a moment, but then rolled his eyes. " Fine. She's in room 423. And I hope I don't have to warn you to not upset my patients?" "Yeah, yeah." - I said backing towards the door. - "And Nor, tell that nurse you're clean, maybe she'll consider you again." - I added before locking the door behind me, just in time something heavy, by the sound of it probably a book, hit it. Laughing under my nose I went to the fourth floor, where I knew room 423 would be. Coming closer to my destination I wondered what to say to that girl, how to start, and how to sell her rejection to not hurt her too much. After all, I wasn't a complete Asshole. But the closer I got to my destination the louder I could hear blazing music coming from somewhere nearby. And sure enough when my feet stopped in front of the white door with the number 423 on it, I was sure where the deafening and absolutely inappropriate for a hospital sound was coming from. So by now I know that she's a woman, and she doesn't respect social boundaries. Perfect. That should make this so much easier. With one last deep breath I knocked on the door, but it was no surprise that no invitation was heard back, that f*****g rumbling probably broke her hearing. So with no other choice I pushed the door open, only to find the most bizarre sight inside. Alright, now I could believe my Mate was indeed a female. She dropped an oversized hoodie and bloodied sweats, she wasn't even wearing a hospital gown anymore. No, instead I was met with a tight like a second skin black yoga pants, with a contrasting white waistband, that accentuated her nicely cut waist and round ass. And thanks to my stupid luck, I had it all on display and almost in my face, because she was doing some strange stretching exercise with one leg on the windowsill and her upper body pressed to it. After a few seconds she stretched raising her hands up, just for me to notice the tiniest neon green top, or sport's bra she was wearing. Then with one leg still on the windowsill she started bending to the side, while her hips were moving to the rhythm. I was fairly positive that this was no real warm up, and to be honest it looked like a perfect seduction method. Especially when she switched her legs. I decided enough was enough, and being still unnoticed I stepped to the TV screwed to the wall and turned the damn thing off, making all the music stop. The sudden silence startled her and she jumped like a scared cat and turned to face me. At first her eyes grew wide in shock and I could take a good look at her face without most of her injuries. Sure enough, without bruises, cuts and swelling even with short hair she couldn't be mistaken for a man. Her eyes were as crystal blue as I remembered them, she had high cheekbones, full lips and a small button nose. Not to mention a nice rack, she hid underneath that neon piece of fabric. Pretty and definitely bangable. If it wasn't for short hair, I wasn't the biggest fan of, she could be a ten. Surprisingly when her first shock at my presence faded, her bright eyes narrowed, as if she was mad. "Hey." - I said after clearing my throat. - "I see you're feeling better." She crossed her arms and looked me up and down, looking for Goddess knows what. "Yes. Thank you for bringing me here." - she said, but there was no gratitude in her tone, it sounded like she said it more because that was a proper thing to do. Without all the blood and something sour that was on her that day, her fresh citrus scent was almost suffocating. It made me unable to think fast, so for a moment, an excruciatingly long moment, we just stood there watching one another, like some two weirdos. "To what do I owe the pleasure?" - she spoke first, with a bit of mockery in her tone, and somehow it made me want to get the rejection over with fast and get the hell out of here, because I may like girls with an attitude in bed, but talking with them, while sober and fully clothed is definitely not my cup of tea. "I came to check up on you and… resolve our situation." - I said as gently as I could. "You mean the bond, because that's what it is, right?" "Yes" - I frowned, shocked she wasn't sure. Maybe the meds she was given dulled the pull for her. - "Don't get this the wrong way, because I'm sure you're a nice girl, but I don't want it." My words didn't hurt her, but her eyes immediately flashed with anger. "Fine by me." - she said with a shrug like she couldn't care less. - "What should we do to get rid of it?" I arched my brow, because that's like werewolf rules 101, it's impossible she doesn't know, unless she grew up under the rock. "I need to say the rejection phrase and then you need to accept it." "Sure. So go on." - she lifted her chin challengingly. Okay, so she took it rather well. That's good. Or at least I hope so. I nodded and prepared myself for the pain I knew was inevitable, but still nothing compared to the one after losing someone you already accepted. So that's still a win for me. "I, Ilia Nikolaevich Burgov, reject you…" - I gestured for her to help me out, because I still didn't know her full name, or nickname for that matter, but that's actually for the best. However she looked utterly confused. - "You have to tell me your full name for the rejection to work." "Oh." - she said, but then started looking really uncomfortable. - "Well, then it's not gonna happen." - she announced and went to her nightstand to busy herself with something. "What?! Why won't you tell me your name?" - I asked through my teeth, getting annoyed with that girl. "Just… because. But don't worry, I'll be out of your hair soon, so it's okay." - she said dismissively. "No! I want the bond broken. NOW!" - I hissed. "And I said no. Deal with it." - she tried to brush me off again. I lost it, I stomped to her, grabbed her by her arm and forcefully turned her to face me. "Look, I have no idea what's going on in your head, but we're doing this NOW. I don't want this f*****g bond messing with my head, I don't need it. So be a good girl and tell me your goddamn name!" She held my glare with equal determination and annoyance in her expression. But then her eyes drifted behind me. I didn't need to turn away to know what she was looking at, it took only one whiff. One whiff that before was masked by her closeness. I knew she would cause trouble. "Ilia, a word." - I heard the most annoying and patronizing voice saying, and I knew I was screwed.
