Rosalie — POV
The festivities were coming to an end and I knew that Alpha Sean was going to make good on his promise. He had been distracted by all the visitors and trying to keep up a good guy image. But now that all the guests were leaving in groups, I knew all his attention would be on me soon.
I tossed and turn in my bed unable to sleep, when I heard Zyphorah sneaking in.
"Rose... Listen to me...get in the shower. I'll be back... don't ask your questions..."
Zyphorah's eyes were filled with tears as she hurried out of my room.
"What the hell?" I thought to myself. Do we have extra work at this time? I asked myself
I took off the pajamas and threw them into the small laundry basket next to the toilet.
Then I jumped into the shower.
I heard the door open, and instantly my heart rate shot up.
"Who's there?!" I said out loud.
"Honey, it's me... "
I heard Zyphorah's soft voice, and my body relaxed slightly.
She handed me a warm towel, a black tracksuit, and a pair of white sneakers.
The tracksuit smelled faintly of cleaning fluids.
"Put these on, okay? And rub this on your skin."
She handed me a small tube of ointment.
I did as I was told and then brushed my hair thoroughly.
When I got to my room, I found Zyphorah and Clara waiting for me.
Clara had a small backpack sitting beside her.
The moment I walked in, Zyphorah gave me a tight hug.
"My love... are you—?"
She stopped herself.
"Can someone, anyone rell me what the hell is going on?? You're scaring me..."
Zyphorah burst into tears.
Clara squeezed my hand tightly.
"You need to get out of here. It's the perfect opportunity. Alpha is distracted. But the guests are leaving and his attention will be on you in a matter of time. He will make.your life hell after what happened."
She looked towards the door.
"But where will I go? I have no money? I don'tknow anything about the human town"
I swallowed hard.
"Rose...you are the smartest person that I know..figure it out. Run and don't ever come back here."
Zyohorah was in tears.
"Okay, honey. We have no time. You need to leave."
"Wait?! Alpha will kill me! You know we can't leave, And besides, Zee, who will look after you and Clara" I said frantically.
"Listen to me."
Clara's voice was firm.
"Tonight, you will run. You will go to the nearest human town. You will sleep there if you must, and then you will catch a bus to another town far away."
I stared at her.
"You are not going to make contact with us. Not with me or Zyphorah."
She pointed towards the backpack.
"We put some money is in there too. All mine and your moms laundry money"
My brain was struggling to keep up with everything that was happening.
Then I remembered.
My money.
I quickly went to the floorboard, pulled it up, and took out the money I had been saving.
$847 in total.
I put it inside the backpack.
"The humans can't know that you are a wolf," Clara continued. "The ointment I gave you will also mask your scent from other wolves. Alpha won't be able to track you until you are long gone. Your tracksuite also won't give you away because it seems like cleaning products."
"Okay..." I said softly.
How long had this been happening to the other omegas?
I had a million questions rushing through my head, but I couldn't form the words.
"Rose..."
Zyphorah gently touched my face.
"Don't worry about us. We'll be fine."
She forced a small smile. But we both knew, if i did escape, Alpha would kill whoever helped me.
"But you still have a chance at a normal life."
She looked down sadly.
"There is a reason why you are the youngest omega in this pack. There is a reason none of us have gotten pregnant."
My heart sank.
"We had to stop this cycle," Clara said, squeezing Zyphorah's hand.
Then it dawned on me.
I was the youngest.
Every other omega was older.
Tina would be next in line, and she was thirty-three years old.
I suddenly understood that they had been protecting me for years.
And now they were sending me away.
It was nearly 03:00, and work time would begin soon.
Clara and Zyphorah quietly snuck me up the stairs and towards the courtyard.
There was a huge delivery truck parked outside.
It belonged to the humans who often delivered vegetables that we couldn't grow ourselves.
Clara opened the back doors.
"Quickly."
She and Zyphorah helped me climb inside and hide behind a few large boxes.
Zyphorah slipped the backpack onto my shoulders and then pressed a folded letter into my hands.
"For when you get there," she whispered.
I looked at her.
"Mom..."
She pulled me into one last hug.
"I love you, Rose."
"I love you too."
The doors closed.
And just like that, my journey began.
Through the small gap between the boxes, I watched Zyphorah and Clara standing in the courtyard.
The look in Zyphorah's eyes was one of pure pain.
"Zyphorah, we have to go, my friend," Clara said softly. "She's smart. She'll be okay."
The truck started moving.
I cried.
And cried.
And cried.
Until eventually, exhaustion took over.
I don't know how long I had been asleep when the truck suddenly came to a stop.
I heard footsteps outside.
The back doors opened.
"Give me a minute to unload!" a man yelled.
My heart started thumping.
He was going to see me.
He would probably kill me, call the Alpha, or take me straight back.
I held my breath.
"No! Just come see!" I heard another voice calling from somewhere in the distance.
The man turned around and walked away, leaving the doors open.
This was my chance.
I grabbed my backpack and jumped out of the truck.
I didn't know what time it was, but I knew it was early morning.
I started walking.
I didn't know where I was going.
I just knew I had to keep moving.
Eventually, I found a building with a large sign outside.
I assumed it was a bus terminal.
I walked inside and approached the glass counter.
A fairly old man sat behind it.
"Good morning, young lady. Where are you headed?"
He asked in a calm manner.
I started tearing up.
"Are you okay?"
I couldn't answer him.
"Okay, okay..." he said gently. "Do you need a ticket to somewhere far away?"
I nodded.
"Okay."
He looked at me for a moment.
"How about Asheville, North Carolina? It's a great place to start over."
He smiled.
"The next bus leaves here in two hours. You have enough time to go across the street to that small diner and grab some breakfast."
He pointed towards the window.
"Then go across to the convenience store and get yourself some snacks for the bus ride. It's going to be a long ride, and I suggest you don't get off until Asheville."
He leaned forward slightly.
"You should also guard your belongings. People will steal from you."
I nodded slowly.
"How much is the ticket?" I asked in a soft voice.
"Don't worry about it, hon."
He smiled.
"I'll use my employee privileges. The ticket is on me."
My eyes filled with tears again.
"Thank you, sir."
I did as he said.
I crossed the road and ordered myself a small breakfast. When I was done, I went to the little convenience store and bought myself a few snacks for the road.
The entire time, I kept looking behind me.
I was terrified that Alpha Sean or Beta Luka would suddenly appear and drag me away.
But they didn't.
When the bus finally pulled away from the terminal, the walls I had built around my emotions finally collapsed.
The tears flowed freely as I sat alone at the back of the bus, clutching my backpack tightly against my chest.
I looked out the window.
For the first time in my life, I was leaving.
I didn't know what waited for me in Asheville.
I didn't know where I would sleep.
I didn't know where I would work.
I didn't even know if I would be safe.
But I was free.
And for now, that was enough.
