Chapter 17

Kendra's Point of View. "Kendra!" My mom called out, sitting up on the only bed we had, her back against the wall to hold herself in the room, I rushed in to see her struggling to get up. "You don't have to do that." I said, nudging her softly back to the bed, "What do you want me to do?" I asked her as I sat down beside her, seeing the little exertion she had put on herself to stand up had taken its toll. "I wanted to talk with you." She said, sighing deeply. "On what, mama?" I asked her, putting on a little smile on my face. "You've been coming home quite early." She started. "I go to the castle early to do my work and come back as early also." I interrupted her, not wanting to hear whatever advice she would have kept in store, "Besides, I have to be with you to take care of you."
