4-CHOCOLATE

DYLAN It's been seven days since I wolfed out, and I still don't have any memories from that night. I'm back in the Pack's house, and that's because my father, Alpha Rowan wants to have a word with me as we take on breakfast. “Good morning, Alpha,” I greet as I take my seat amongst the members of the higher ranks in the pack: Betas and other high-ranking officials. “Good morning, son,” Dad responds, passing a bowl of fried turkey and salad over to me. “How was your night?” “Good,” I answer with a slight nod of the head. Other members of the Pack take what they can on the table, but the silence is louder than the frantic beating of my heart. Aunt Edwina stands from her seat, taking her coat in her arm, before leaning down to whisper something into her brother's ears, loud enough for me to hear. “Don't go too hard on the boy. You know how these things are.” She leaves the minute the last word lands, and something collapses into my stomach. Her staying would make it easier for me, right now. Since the passing of my mum, my aunt has filled that role completely, and not having her around makes things slightly difficult for me. Dad turns his gaze to me the second she leaves through the door, and goddess, I feel my soul leave with her. “You are aware of the tradition that has kept this Pack safe for a very long time, don't you, Dylan?” Dad snarls, and I nod my head in response. “Yes, Alpha.” “Then you are aware we are strictly forbidden from getting involved with the human race.” I nod once more, feeling the full weight of Trevor's safety washing down on me. If my father were to find out about his knowledge of our existence, he might end up removing him completely. And by that, I mean… death. “A werewolf's bite is lethal to humans, and your aunt informs me that you had blood on your lips when you wolfed out seven days ago,” Dad mutters, but those deep, hollow eyes of his are doing more damage than his words ever could. “Yes, Alpha,” I murmur. “I don't have my memories of that night, but I'm certain it's just a Bush animal. Nothing more.” That shifts his gaze to the Iroh, the Pack's investigator, and a deep stare between both of them unsettles me deeply and makes my heart thunder against my sternum. “A report was made in the Academy about a missing person, six days ago,” Iroh snags, and goddess, his words are enough to puncture a hole through my chest. “Early this morning, we located the body, but… My eyes widen, and so do my eardrums, waiting for the next set of words to leave his lips. Goosebumps flare over my skin, as heat settles underneath its flesh. “The girl is alright. Alive. No visible bite marks are on her skin. No sign of force on her, either.” I feel my lungs collapse as cloying air leaves through my nostrils. A swallow slides down my throat, and the heat boiling within me settles, too. “With that being said,” Dad turns his gaze towards me, but this time, the intensity isn't as heavy as before. “You should have control over your beast by now, and during full moons.” I close my eyes, feeling a wave of shame settling over my skin. I can feel the weight of the Pack's eyes on me without even looking at them. An Alpha's son unable to attain control over his beast is not fit to be the next Alpha, and protector of the Pack. “You can leave, now!” Dad utters, and I waste no time exiting the mansion and making it into my car. I glance through my wristwatch and realise I'm already late for practice. It takes me less than an hour to get to the Academy and into the locker room where the boys are already waiting for me. Amongst them is a short man with dark hair and dark eyes. Trevor. “I take it the lecture from the old man didn't go well at all,” Trevor jested, and wrapped his hand over my shoulder, even though he is the shortest of the two of us. I take out my training wear from the locker before slamming the door shut. “Easy there, tiger,” Bjorn retorts, and Trevor fixes his gaze on me. “That bad, huh?” I nod my head as we make it into the fields. Running should soothe the nerves raking over me. A few minutes into training, something wraps at the back of my throat. A scent. Chocolate and highly familiar, although I cannot recall where I last perceived it. It's intoxicating and highly alluring. It gathers heat and settles it into the meat between my legs, pooling a huge amount of blood into the area. It's all I breathe. It seizes control of my lungs and makes me bite down hard on my bottom lip as the wolf within me tries to resurface. “Dylan!” Someone calls my name, but it skims through and passes out the other end of my eardrums. My sole attention is on that sweet vanilla scent that has the amber in my eyes glinting under the lights. The minute I trace the direction of that scent, my gaze lands on a raven-haired girl with purple eyes and pink lips that feel soft from a distance. The way the sun rays dance along her pale skin has my lungs pounding within my chest, and those almond-shaped eyes are enough to have me crawling on my knees and begging for just a touch from her. When her eyes find mine, everything freezes, and the realisation that the scent I've been perceiving all this time comes from her pierces my skull and creates a wormhole within my chest. My heart stops, then restarts with a violent thud. I'm about to take a step towards her when a hand grabs hold of my arm and buries her tongue far down my throat. Anissa. The taste of it feels like an intrusion with my wolf snarling at the back of my mind. I push her away from me after a few seconds, but when I shift my gaze back to Raven-head… she's gone like she never even existed.
