He tilted his head, studying me like I wasn't even real. Shade's blood still stained his boots, dark and wet. The scent of liquor clung to him so thick it stung my throat and filled my nose. He swayed forward, off-balance and reeking. "Maybe this time, I won't miss." Then he lunged. "You always needed someone to put you in your place." I scrambled back.
