The water only pooled around Vick, dampening the surface, yet the thick hard black slime clung stubbornly. Its texture still hardened as they watched in disbelief, encasing Vick in an unyielding shell. The water had no effect; the slime remained intact, still sealed in a grotesque cocoon.
“No! This can’t be happening!” Claire shouted, her voice edged with panic. They watched helplessly as Vick’s stunned frozen in that state. He luckily was still limp, the slime appear even more hardened around him.
Max fell to his knees, disbelief washing over him. “We... we failed. The water didn’t save him.”
James knelt beside Max, his eyes wide and frightened. “What do we do now?” he asked, voice trembling. Vick was unconscious, wrapped in a sinister coating that glimmered malevolently in the faint light.
James paced back and forth, frustration building within him. “We can’t leave him like this! We need to get him out of the slime before it locks him in for good!”
“Are you sure that’s even possible?” Claire’s voice was laced with uncertainty. “It looks like it’s on for good.”
They stared at their once-friend, now an unrecognizable figure encased in darkness. “We need to think,” Max urged, scrambling to regain focus. “What could we use? Anything that might break through this?”
“What if we try heat?” Max suggested, fiddling with any loose debris around them. “If the slime reacts to something extreme, maybe we can soften it up?”
“Or we could risk it and try to pry him out. Maybe brute force will work,” James countered, clenching his fists in frustration.
As despair settled in, a sense of urgency enveloped them. They couldn’t abandon Vick; regardless of the odds, they needed to devise a plan.
“Let’s split up,” Max suggested, determined. “We need to find tools or anything we can use to free him.” His gaze flickered toward Vick’s hardened form. They had to save him, and they couldn't let fear dictate their actions.
Before Max can make anymore plans with his team, he looks back to see Mal peeling out with the hotwired car. “You got to learn quick you can either die the hero of this story or look after your own ass and stay one step ahead. Good luck!” Mal laughes can be heard echoing through the now empty streets.
