Chapter Ninety-Three The morning light was cold and sharp. It cast long, dark shadows across the gravel yard outside the main building. Jake had left early that morning to attend a meeting near the north fence with some of the other members. That left me downstairs in the main clubhouse to clean up the bar area. The rest of the club members were busy scattered across the compound, so the big main room felt quiet, cold, and drafty. I was standing behind the heavy pine bar, wiping down the smooth wooden counter with a damp cloth.
