Don’t get me wrong, had it been the previous Jack, the one I don’t like, the horrible nasty Jack with his stolen pies. The one I met yesterday or was it the day before, then probably I would not have hesitated; but this was not that Jack, he was different, lonely, and desperate and had been nothing but nice to me! I nudged at them a little harder with my beak, making then swing backward and forward, only to add to his fear of what might happen. I open my beak and took a hold of one ball and pull back, stretching the elastic skin, adding a new dimension to Jack’s subjection to me. Jack screamed for the first time since I had found him.
