ROSIE POV

When my brother, Cameron, mind-linked me to tell me to get all the elder members and children to the safety shelter. I did not understand why he was telling me until the ground began to shake. I looked over to my mate, Jeremey, with panic.
“What’s going on?” Jeremey asked me
“I’m not sure but Cameron told me to get the women & children to the safety shelter,” I told him.
“Okay, I will grab as many as I can”. I nodded at Jeremey. As I looked at my mate I suddenly felt the sense this was going to be my last time seeing him. I averted my eyes to his lips. Jeremey read my movements and captured my lips with his. Our lips did a beautiful tribal dance. The passion we shared lit a fire in us, it was like we both had the same feeling, the same instinct that we were not going to see each other again. The love that had just begun was coming to an end. A very sad lonely tear left my eyes, he pulled away from my lips. Gently, touching my forehead with his. The warmth of him made me feel better. He wiped the tear that fell from my eye & kissed my forehead so sweetly.
“This is not goodbye Rosie, I will find you if it is the last thing I do” he whispered sweet nothings in my ear.
“I love you Jeremey,” I said as quiet as a mouse but I knew he heard me
“I love you too baby. Now go.” he said, pushing me in the opposite direction.
I did not look back at my mate, I took off running toward a group of kids that were screaming for their mommy. I got to them and I immediately recognized them as the Garner triples. I looked around for Mary, their mother because I knew Gavin, their father was a warrior. I could not spot Mary anywhere.
“It’s going to be okay. I’m going to take you to your mommy. Come on.” I said to them calmly. I grabbed the smallest of the triplets.
“Are you boys okay running?” I asked the other two brothers. They nodded at me. I jogged towards the safety shelter. I made sure not to go too fast so the boys can keep up. I saw Mary helping Elder Gaddie to the shelter.
“Mary!” I called out to her. She looked back at me. The boys ran to their momma, I was right behind them. Mary dropped to her knees & hugged her boys.
“I need your help with getting every woman and child on this side to safety”.
“Yes. Of course, you brought my boys back to me. I am indebted to you.” She said not giving me a glance. She was too busy checking over her sons, I didn't mind it. I would do the same thing if I had pups. She stood up and looked me in my eyes.
“We should head towards the safety shelter and grab people on our way there.” she said
“That’s a good plan but people are scattered looking for their loved ones.”
“Then what should we do?”
“Let’s take opposite paths to the shelter and grab people on the way there. If we run into some of our top women fighters we can send them to do the same thing. The more hands, the more people we can grab” I told her.
“Okay, let’s do this.”
“Divide and conquer.” She nodded to me & we parted ways.
I was running with Mary’s youngest triple still when I found another group of women and children. I told them I could lead them to shelter, and they quickly followed me. Halfway to the safety shelter I saw a toddler being captured by two vampires.
“Sam! Take Tommy” I handled Tommy to Sam, giving her a head nod. She took off after the group with Tommy in her arms. I ran over to the two blood suckers that had the little girl. I jumped over their heads, I connected the web between my thumb and index finger to one of the capturers throat. His hand instantly went to his throat dropping the little girl’s leg. The other captor dropped the girl completely & began to charge at me. He threw the first punch, I quickly dodged it. I punched him in the nose, grabbing the back of his neck. I connected my knee to his stomach. I took the knife that was hidden in my boot & slit his throat. I did not notice the other captor until he grabbed me from behind. I tried fighting my way out of his hold but it did not work. I headbutted him and took my knife to his non beating heart. Ripping it away from his body which caused him to drop to his knees. I held his heart in front of his eyes and I crushed it in my hands while he watched. I watched him turn to nothing but ashes. I looked around but I did not see the little girl. I walked a few feet and noticed she was hiding in a log.
“Hey.. hey, you can come out now. I promise I won’t hurt you” I said to her gently, I not only wanted her to know she was safe. I wanted her to feel it. I wanted her to feel comfortable with me or getting her to safety would be difficult. She slowly came out of the log, walking over to me.
“It’s okay sweetheart, I just want you to get back to your parents” I said softly. She nodded and took my hand. I was happy because she grabbed my hand first, I didn’t know if she would have taken my hand if I offered it to her.
“What’s your name baby girl?” I asked her
“Emily” she said softly
“Well, it’s nice to meet you Emily. My name is Rosie”. She gave me a small smile. I picked her up and ran towards the safety shelter. On the way there, I saw no one out and about. I was glad they gathered everyone so quickly.
We were a few steps away from the shelter entrance. Immediately, I felt an unbelievable pain in my chest, it was excruciating. I fell to my knees, screaming out in pain. Emily fell with me, I wanted to catch her but my body protested. I was stunned & I felt like I was going into shock. Pain. Emptiness. That was all I felt. I laid there looking towards the sky, I saw Mary appear in front of me saying something. I could not listen to her, she was washed away in the wave of my emptiness. Floating away with my happiness, bringing in my loneliness. Tears began to pour from my face because reality was setting in. Jeremey. My love. My best friend. My other half. My mate. My mate was dead. He was taken away from me. This pain is unbearable, I could not & would not wish this pain even on my worst enemy.
“Rosie! Rosie!” Mary screamed at me
“You have to get up baby. We have to get into the shelter” she tried to help me up. My legs could not move, I could not move. I felt like I was dying. I will be dying because my mate is gone. My eyes were growing heavy, I was floating into darkness. I felt someone pick me up, I grabbed up enough strength to look at who picked me up. My eyes connected with the eyes I have not seen in 10 years. The face I had not touched in ten years. The person I’ve been longing to see for ten years. The person that was there with me through everything. My high school friend. My best friend. Lenelle Taylor.
