"But I asked for a million!" Kenji complained. When he saw the look on Jake's face, he bit his lip and went silent.
"Was he the one you gave two million dollars to last week?" Jake asked Meg.
"Yes," she replied. "I just wanted to help him."
"Why?"
"Because I thought once he got that money, he would never come back here to bother me again."
"Is he blackmailing you?" Jake asked sharply.
"No!" both Kenji and Megumi said at the same time.
"Then why are you acting as if you owe him?" Jake asked.
"He lost his job in Tokyo and he decided to come to America with his wife to start afresh, but things have been hard for him," said Megumi.
"Not hard enough for him to blow two million dollars in one week. What did you do with the money, Kenji?" Jake asked furiously.
