ALICE POV
'I don't repeat the same mistakes twice. I repeat it three or four times, hell even a hundred times till it bores the s**t out of me' I replied to John, who seemed pretty pissed off with me.
'That's a universal fact' Commented Houston who's driving next to me.
'I know that!' John exclaimed, irritated. 'But you can't keep doing it, Alice. How many times has it been? six or seven ‒
'Eight' Koa corrected.
I smirked at Houston who gave me a wicked smile and a wink before looking back at the road.
'Right, eight. Eight f*****g times. It's no joke, lady' John said.
What do you expect me to do, Jo Jo ‒
'Don't call me that!' He snapped quickly.
I laughed and so did John and Koa. John is a frantic asshole. Everything seems serious to him, including screwing his brother for eight damn times.
'As I was saying, Colton's good at f*****g. Don't blame me'
'Find some other man for God sake! He's my baby brother!'
'And you're his protective douchebag' Replied Koa.
I heard a loud smack from behind and turned around to see Koa clutching his upper arm in pain.
'The hell, dude? I was just stating the facts!' Koa retorted.
'He's not a baby, Jo Jo. He's 30 for Chris sake.' I rolled my eyes at John before turning to the road.
'He's engaged' John said.
'Was engaged' Said me, Houston and Koa in unison.
'But he still has the engagement ring on his finger' John reasoned.
'He removes it before f*****g me' I replied nonchalantly which made Koa and Houston roar with laughter and John to groan.
'Arg, you are unbelievable, Alice'
'Never said I wasn't, Jo Jo'
'But please try not to do it again, please. Consider it has a request'
'Don't tell me, John. Tell your baby brother to keep it in his pants. He comes to me and I let him because I still didn't find a better f**k than him. Once I do, I will stop it with your brother, okay? You know how it goes'
'We're here' Houston replied in a wary tone which made us all quiet.
I rolled down the window and looked out at the huge warehouse, with barely any lights on. Houston switched off the headlights and drove towards the woods, away from the building. John and Koa were already loading their guns, the click making it perfectly locked in its place.
I took out an Orbit gum from the last cardboard box and popped it in my mouth before opening the dashboard and pulling out my Glock 19, specially provided by the law, and checked the magazine before loading it. I've been using this heavy metal since I joined ATF, threes ago. I had a Smith & Wesson M&P 9 before for two years when I freshly joined. I never used that, not even once and hence called it PB&J. While the one I have right now is a Brute. I've used it on so many bastards that I lost count at one point and let it be.
I adjusted my woolen fingerless gloves that hardly reaches my wrists and knuckles. Houston killed the engine and the dead silence enveloped us. I looked around to the darkness with hardly any moon light penetrating through the thick trees and bushes.
'Time to kick some motherfucker's ass' I said and opened my door, stepping down on the dry leaves that crunched under my boots. The tight black top and khaki pants were not enough to trap my body heat and I shivered due to the cold breeze.
I heard the three of them close the doors behind me. I pulled out my pocket flashlight and switched it on. I placed my right hand, that's pointing the gun in front, above my left hand that's holding the flashlight below.
I scanned the area before nodding and taking caution steps forward. They followed me close and when the warehouse came into view, I switched off the light and sat down on my toes, looking through the bushes.
They were men carrying boxes and boxes of what we know is drugs to a heavy truck. Jessy from the Intelligence Department was right when she got the information about drugs being exported tonight.
Damn where the f**k to they even get these?
The past three months have seen a drastic increase in the drug cartel making us work day and night shifts.
'I'll check the perimeter' Said Houston and went off.
'I'll go with him' Said John, leaving me and Koa alone.
I watched closely, trying to figure out anyone we know and there came out Alex. Prison's been lonely without him for so many months. He was ordering the men and at some point, he shouted, his voice drifting to us.
'Make it quicker, s**t holes! We've not got the whole night' He shouted, rubbing his bald head that has a snake tattoo curved at the back. I remember the first ever time I found him in the underground street of NY, selling crack to college students. He ran like his ass is on fire when he saw us but he wasn't fast enough until I knocked him off his feet by throwing a throwing a stool I indecently grabbed from a café with customers sitting outside.
He isn't what he looks like. He's all bark and not bite.
'I'm still wondering why he didn't get a life imprisonment' Said Koa, gesturing to Alex.
'Because we've got a shitty law.' Was all I replied and was interrupted by Houston through our walkie.
'All clear' Houston said.
'Copy that. How many?' I asked back.
'10. 12 maybe, not more' He replied shortly.
'Not a number we can't outnumber. Get in' I said.
'Rodger that'
Within few seconds we heard the men inside the warehouse scream and the ones carrying the boxes, froze on their spots.
'Now' I said to Koa and we immerged from the bushes with our guns raised at the men.
Alex saw us and screamed at his men to finish us before he ran away inside. The men immediately dropped the boxes and took out their respective guns.
Without any hesitation I shot the one that's close to me, he howled in pain and scrunched down to the ground, holding his arm where the bullet hit.
'Alice!' Koa warned but I wasn't listening. I ain't gonna bleed to death tonight, thank you.
'Drop the guns down, else I'll shoot your d***s' I mentioned gravely to the other men who looked panic-stricken at the fact that i just shot one for them without a care in the world. They raised their arms above and dropped their guns.
'You get them. I'll go in' I said to Koa when I heard a gunshot go off inside the warehouse. Koa nodded and I quickly sprinted towards the warehouse.
Houston was fighting off three men while John was nowhere to be seen but there was a man aiming a gun towards a steel rack, so I guess he's hiding behind.
A man came running to me. I dodged his first and last blow towards my face, ramming my knees between his legs and throwing a punch to his jaw after he kneeled down. He quickly fell down but another two came after me from the sides.
Sliding my gun to my holster at the side, I lifted my leg up, kicking the man's abdomen towards my right and spun around to force a punch on the other guy on his temple. I didn't wait for them to came back from their momentary pain. I ran towards my friends but the men were already running for me. I kicked a row of rack that contained drugs wrapped in covers. They fell on the men who were coming after me.
John kept running around in circles as the man kept firing his bullets. He was so busy emptying the bullets that he didn't see me coming behind him. A cover of cocaine cracked open when I slapped it right on his head before kicking his calf, making him fall on the ground, the gun slipping from his hand.
John picked it up and threw a pair of cuffs at me. I wasted no time in keeping the man down on the ground and cuffing his hands at the back. He was cussing and screaming but I wasn't listening. I landed a last knock on his head and he shut up for good.
Grabbing him by the collar, I pulled him up to his feet. He was blinking rapidly, in and out of his consciousness and not even aware that his head is bleeding.
I pulled him along with me. Taking out my gun, I kept it raised in front while John and Houston were fighting off the remaining ones. I threw the man on the ground once I was close to the entrance. Koa who was sitting in the back of the truck with the men all cuffed up and kneeling aside, quickly came over to take the man off the ground and I went back in.
***
A team of cops arrived after we were done capturing all of them. They loaded the drugs in the same truck and the forensic took pictures and docs treated the ones who were shot and bleeding while the four was us were leaning on the car we came from.
Sheriff Logan approached us and I had to control myself my rolling my eyes.
'Good catch tonight' He appreciated.
I only inhaled deep from my cigar before exhaling a puff of smoke, looking right into his dark orbs. They are so many people I don't like and Sheriff Logan is one of them.
'Alex ran away though' He added.
'Where will he go other than the Meat house Point? You can still catch him if you go there' Said John.
If I hate someone, my friends hate them too.
'You guys were supposed to do it' Sheriff pulled out of his façade and gave us an ugly scowl 'Not a work get done in order with you people. I've always told you to change your team, Houston' He said rudely and walked away from us.
'Asshole' Koa grunted.
'Ignore him. We've got other important matters' Houston reasoned.
The loading of drugs and piling up the men went on forever and its already half past 2 in the morning and we need to get back to work early morning at 8. Houston finished the rest of the formalities and explained to the forensic head, Leo, that it was necessary for me to shoot the man as he was trying to pull off my pants to get a view of my sexy legs.
Leo will take care of the rest and explain to our Chief in the morning and I won't be suspended or fined.
After finishing my cigar, we didn't wait any longer and took off from the place. My head's aching like s**t and the cigar didn't help much. Koa drove us back. There was silence in the car, John and Houston fast asleep as Koa drove on the lonely road.
When we reached my place, I bid goodbye to Koa and walked to my dingy apartment that's situated at the third floor of the old building Mansion Kiara.
Special Agents like us are paid better and given a government facility but I declined them all. I prefer privacy and can't live with my co-workers around me. Also, the building is located at the noisy neighbourhood, close to other buildings, which facilitates me to make a run on the rooftops when s**t hits the fan.
I clicked the elevator button and waited. The lobby was empty, guess Sir Kingsley, the watchman fell asleep once again instead of patrolling.
I got into the elevator and pressed my floor.
As soon as the elevator opened, my eyes fell upon a little figure that was sitting near the door that's opposite to mine, just few feet away, with her hands tightly shut to her ears and her eyes closed.
A loud scream and a moan of a woman came from the closed door which made me realize her situation.
I softly walked towards her, making sure my boots didn't click hard on the dirty wooden floor.
I placed my hand on her head and she instantly jerked back, looking up at me with wide fearful eyes before realizing it's just me.
'You scared me, Alice!' she squealed. I smirked at her and c****d an eyebrow.
'Did I, now?' I asked. 'C'mon I've got some leftover salmon in the fridge. Sure, you haven't had anything from lunch, have you?'
She didn't reply and looked back at the floor, tucking a strand of her brunette hair behind the ear. I scooped down and lifted her tiny frame in my arms and she instantly wrapped her arms around my neck.
'Damn, my keys are in my pocket, Anna. Slip your hand into my right pocket will ya?' I said when we reached my door.
She did as I told and took out my apartment key and I opened the door. I kicked the door behind and placed her on the couch, before walking towards the kitchen. I threw all the empty beer bottles that were on the slabs into the trash cans and opened the fridge.
There was nothing but more beer bottles, salmon, milk, butter, tomatoes and leftover pizza from last night. I pulled the fish and pizza out and put it in the oven. I heard the t.v being switched on and her usual cartoon running. I drank a glass of water, removed my gloves and washed my face before walking back to the messy living room. My panty was lying on the floor, near the broken t.v stand and there was my bra hanging on the lamp that's situated near the window on a small table. I sighed and picked it up. My dress was on the floor as well. I'm never getting drunk again and slipping off all my closing and sleeping naked on the couch.
Throwing the dirty clothes on the laundry basket in my room, I walked back to the living room and sat beside Anna.
She was quiet at first and then started talking about her day in school, forgetting about her drunk mother f*****g some man-w***e next door.
After dinner, I put her to sleep on my bed and slumped on the couch, sleeping instantly due to the tiredness.
