Chapter Twenty-Seven
They didn’t have much to pack, only what they brought with them to the convent. Officer Mike picked up the four O’Sullivan children at the convent early since he had the day off. He already had John with him. It was all arranged, the family taking a little trip to help Susanne recuperate. That’s how Officer Mike explained it to the Family Service and Guidance staff. They thought it was a grand idea, and pleased that law enforcement was so helpful arranging the departure.
Susanne and her children had a pass from the railroad so there was no cost to travel. And the agency provided a little spending money for meals. Their father was still recuperating in Topeka, and there would be a reunion soon. Officer Mike knew otherwise.
