Chapter Five: A Secure Location

1187 Words
As the minutes seemed to drag into hours, I tugged my phone out of my bag and placed it on my knee. I casually doodled in my book as I typed a message to Josh: "So where is the secure location?" The reply didn't come as fast as I had hoped it would have but it came none the less: "Surely you can figure it out." He said with a smiley face sticking its tongue out. "So you aren't even going to give me a hint?" I replied stealthily because the teacher caught someone two seats away from me busy typing a message. The teacher took her phone and it looked as if the girl was losing her lifeline. I quickly looked away in case she wanted to avenge her phone by getting someone else's taken. Josh sent me a reply and I felt like a true spy not wanting to get caught in a mission. "No but I'll give you three chances to guess where it could be and what it could be." I smiled but quickly covered it up and doodled in my book trying to figure out where or what this place could be. Josh was not as patient as me though. "You can make any guess you want. I won't laugh because I wouldn't want to get caught on my phone." I rolled my eyes. "I don't just make guesses, I have to deduct every possible clue and make a valid guess." "How very clever of you, super spy." I rolled my eyes at his message but didn't reply still going through all the places in school and eliminating the places I don't find secure. The cafeteria for example wouldn't be secure because of all the prying ears, which would cancel out most of the areas in school. The secure location thus had to be a place where there is hardly people. My options the library, the garden that was designated for couples to hang out in and piece of lawn between the parking lot main hall.  So three areas and three guesses. The secure location had to be the library because that's where we met or would that be our headquarters? I quickly typed my message but I didn't get a respond. I started panicking what if his phone gotten taken away because of me. I swear teachers have a device that tells them exactly  when a child isn't focusing anymore because the teacher turned to me for the answer in that exact moment. I looked at the board grateful that the teacher writes most of the things down.  "It is a DNA strand because of the nucleotides, Adenine, Thymine, Guanine and Cytosine. RNA has the four nucleotides, Adenine, Thymine, Guanine and Uracil." The teacher looks at me flabbergasted and I smile sweetly. I loved this part in Biology, I don't know why but it always intrigued me so forming an answer was easy. Although if she hadn't written things on the board I wouldn't have been able to form an answer. "Good job, Christina." She managed to say before going on with the lesson.  I suppose if it wasn't for a certain guy, I would've been sitting like a little sponge and soaking up all the information the teacher was giving. The bell rang and I made my way to my locker. I placed my bag in only grabbing my book and cellphone. As I turned I bumped into a very muscular chest, but it wasn't built like a wrestler, football player or body builder's chest. It had muscle but a kind of stealth type of muscle, if that makes sense... I blushed and quickly apologized but was interrupted by a laugh. "Chill Chris. I'm not going to bite your head off although I love that pink on you." I laughed along before punching his arm playfully. "So did you work it out?" "I am certain that one of my suspicions is correct." "Okay..." He said encouraging me to say more. "So it is between three places. The library but I think that is our headquarters though. I suspect it could then be between the lawn by the parking lot or the lovers' garden." He looks at me confused for a second. "This school has a place for couples?" I smile. "Well the teachers got together one afternoon and discussed the matter of people sucking each other's lungs out and decided it'll give the school a bad reputation. So they designated a lawn with beautiful flowers to the couples the only catch is that it is right outside the teachers' lounge, so the poor unfortunate love birds would be under surveillance." "I'm guessing that's why it isn't being used." He said it with certainty and a feeling bubbled up. I so wanted to burst his bubble. "Oh no. It gets used just not by couples." He looked at me quizzically and I smiled. "Kids who don't fit in and get bullied usually sit there." "Oh and does that help?" "No it didn't until a few weeks ago some of the kids protested during break in front of the windows of the lounge and since then the bullies have been at bay there. The thing is the bullies realised that after school or during periods or while we're shifting classes is the best time to do it." "Don't they ever get caught?" "No the teachers turn a blind eye so that they don't have to sit with 'crap' during their tea time, because heaven forbid that weak kids meddle with their gossip." He looks at me surprised at my sudden flash of anger and I shrug. "You never did tell me the secure location." He smiles suddenly. "I was thinking warm days we'll make it the lawn and cold days and mornings will be the library because as you said yourself it's our headquarters." "So I was right with both of them." "You never guessed that it would be both. So, you were wrong." "You made it two on purpose, didn't you?" "No I didn't what makes you think that?" I roll my eyes and he laughs. "So you wanna go get some good vitamin D?" "Why not?"  We head to the lawn and find a nice sunny spot with a tree for some shade. I sat down in the sunny spot feeling slightly cold and he sat in the shade. We both spoke for a minute before we decided to read. When we both laughed at a section in our books we looked up curiosity burning in each other's eyes. We swap books and read the joke before handing it back. Some guys usually find this boring and other guys would be too shy to do the same. I guess that's why he intrigued me so much.  I look up from my book and notice him looking at me. I smile shyly before turning my eyes back to my story, a blush threatening to escape. How could no other guy make me feel like this but he could? What was I even feeling for him? Why did every location feel like a secure one around him?
