Chapter 9

1009 Words
Ruggerio As the bartender delivers our drinks, I thank him and hand her the glass of champagne. She thanks me with a crooked smile, and I take a deep breath lifting my gaze. Just as I let my eyes roam over the entrances, I see two women walking in. They halt at the top of the remaining steps after having passed the large double doors and seem to assess which bar they want to attack first. The one on the right captures my attention immediately. Do I know her? She is wearing a lilac dress that flows down her body, kissing her curves and putting some nice boobs on display. No, I would surely remember those. The color of the dress matches her mask, like everybody else’s does. It’s quite common actually. Hers, on the other hand, has her looking regally. She has her hair falling on her shoulders like a black silky waterfall. I don’t do dark haired. I’m still staring as my thought has me tearing back to reality. I look back to my “date” as her voice and the loud music which faded momentarily hits me back full force. My thoughts, however, wander back to the masked woman that just had caught my attention. She looks stunning, yes. And she isn’t my type at all. Not even a little bit. But something has me looking up for her again. As I lose her in the crowd, I’m quite a bit disappointed she and her friend chose the other bar to get their drinks. I invite my date for a dance and have her spinning around, pulling her back to my chest. This way, I won’t be distracted by her face anymore. Surprisingly, she stops talking as well. What a pro tip. Feeling a tap on my shoulder, I turn around to find Frank gesturing to the terrace. As much as I’m able to understand, he needs to smoke. Oh, I’m in. We walk out to a lounge at the end of the spacious open space, and I slump in my seat in front of Frank. I’m not leaning my arm on the backrest of the lounge, but my date tries to snuggle in anyway. As the girls are chatting along happily, I smoke my cigarette in silence and watch Frank playing with his pearl-stone bracelets. He seems as annoyed as I am, but he suddenly jerks up slightly, looking like a deer caught in the spotlights. I guess someone that just stepped out piqued his interest. As I’m sitting with my back to the large window doors, I don’t see who just came out and takes their seat right behind us. But the whiff I get from their perfumes being carried our way by the light breeze, has me wanting to take a look at them too. By the looks of it, Frank wants to change his place as well and I guess it’s just a matter of time until I can get us out of this absurd date-situation. “Stop it, you are going to kill me.” I have to hold in my laughter as well as I nearly crack up at the story the woman sitting in the lounge behind us just told. As they are having a rather funny conversation about a drunken night out, I’m still stuck with the two girls discussing different treatments of crow’s feet. As my date looks behind her glaring disdainfully at the funny ladies behind us, that’s it for me. I’m suddenly thankful that I’m not carrying a gun as my paranoid grandfather does, as I would have put myself out and taken my wingman with me. As if I would leave this world not dragging down with me the guy responsible for this shitty situation. Taking out my phone, not even caring if they notice that I’m texting the guy sitting right before me, I send out a text. Ruggerio: Dude, I’m sorry if you lose a probable good hook up, but God help me, I cannot stand them a minute longer. Frank: WTF?! I was just hanging on as your wingman, you were looking at her so intently. I thought you liked her. Ruggerio: Yeah, she has crooked teeth. Frank practically explodes in loud laughter and gets up. “Well, ladies. If you will excuse us, my friend and I will go in to take another drink at the bar. You said you wanted to get back on the dance floor anyway, right?!” I put my hand on my chest. “To be honest, I’ve promised a dance to a good girlfriend of mine, so maybe we will see each other later.” The two get up with us looking confused. “Sure.” Slapping Frank on his back, we take our leave first, entering the loud party hall. I feel incredible, it’s nearly like I can breathe again. As we are standing at the bar, waiting for our Gin Tonic and Cuba Libre, Frank looks at me with a serious expression. “We have to get back outside!” “What? No way.” We shout at each other, barely hearing each other. He waves his hands before him. “No, no. There was a girl in another lounge. I have to try my luck with her!” I laugh loudly while nodding my head. What an i***t. Stepping into the night again, Frank gestures to the lounge that was right behind ours. Really?! The funny ones. “The one in the black dress.” I grin at him, signaling him to go ahead. “I wanted to go into that lounge anyway.” Apart from the woman dressed in all black, I can’t see much of her friend. The white fabrics decorating the lounge sway in the wind, covering her, and only revealing a pair of golden high heels. The moment I step up to the lounge, I can’t believe my eyes. The dark-haired Goddess, all dressed in lilac, sits in the lounge laughing with her friend. Fuck yes!
