Cheyanne

Tick..Tick..Tick. “Alex” “Yes, Cheyanne?” As always he was quick to respond.  “That clock on the wall, remove it.” He did so, constantly he looked over his shoulder as if he was waiting for me to yell at him. He has been by my side since we were children, has he learned nothing! He spoke with an urgency as if he could not wait to be excused. “I heard you had a meeting  with the Kings today, am I to assume our visit will be longer than anticipated?” “Yes, now leave me,” and he did.  I am tired. Why must I always have to be the bad person? My reputation that my mother had so carefully built for me now haunted me. Everytime I look in the mirror all I can see is the monster they see. “Madam” This time it was Lily, smart, kind Lily. She was sold to my family when she was 10 in hopes that her father would gain recognition with my mother. “It is time for your medication, I brought all of it. To get you in the spirit of being back in Russia I bought you some tea too!” I looked at her, she was the one person who did not fear me, therefor her company wasn't as horrid as everyone else's. “Sit and drink with me.” As if she could say no to me. I grabbed a cup of tea and handed it to her as she took her seat.    “I heard you visited the Kings home today!” “And?” “How was it?” The difference between Lily and everyone else was she genuinely cared, she wasn’t just asking because she had to. “What have you heard of them?” “I heard Cole is hot!” I couldn’t help but smile at her innocence. She wasn’t meant for this life but it was good to have her by my side. There was no one else I could think of that made me smile and forget who I am and what I have been through. “He is also an ass.” “Yes, I have heard that too.” This time it was her who was smiling.  “How did it go? Alex said we would be staying longer than we had originally said.”  “Yes, they have asked me to do some work for them.” “I see. Well, I shall get back to work! But thank you for this Madam!” With that she left and I was alone once again. The pills still laid on my desk. What were they going to do for me? Could they take away the memories that my mother emended in my mind? In one quick motion I slide my hand across the desk and flung everything onto the ground, it proved to be louder then I thought it would. Knock..knock..knock. “What?” My voice was harsh more harsh than usual. “I heard a loud noise. I just wanted to make sure you are fine.” Alex, his voice was deep and calm. He knew what was wrong. He was there every time my mother…having those thoughts now wouldn’t help. “I’m fine. You are free to retire for the night.” “But what of dinner? Shall I tell them to bring it to your room?” He said not daring to open the door for fear of what he would see. A pitiful woman that everyone feared. How stupid does that make them? “Alright then, goodnight Cheyanne.” I didn’t reply I wanted someone to be mad at and Alex was there.    When I heard him leave I picked my head up sat down in my chair. I was trying hard not to let the memories flood my mind but they did no matter what I wanted.            “Where is she? I said WHERE IS SHE?” “Madam Cheyanne needs to rest, her injuries are serious!” He actually cared, right? Or was that a lie too? “Go wake her and tell her that she has not finished today and she won’t be finished until she is STRONGER THAN EVERYONE ELSE!!”  Stomp...stomp...stomp. I watch the door quickly open and her face appeared.     Knock...knock...knock. I jumped, this was happening more and more her memories coming back to me. “Who is it?” I had yet to get my composure completely gained. “It’s getting late, what would you like me to do with your dinner?” “I’m coming to eat it now. Tell everyone to set the table!” “Yes madam!” I stood up and walked to the mirror, one long breath, and I was ready. No one would see me in that state, no matter who they are. I walked out but before I closed the door I whispered in the dark, “I am a Monster.”
