Chapter three

CH3 Carolina's’ POV A blurry halo of white light was the first thing I saw. It hung over me, going on and off. At least that's what I thought untill I realized that my eyes were flickering instead. Trying to stay open. Memories of who I was and other things were coming in flashes and then there was this ache gnawing at my shoulder. Although I couldn't process much, I knew I was no help to myself lying down. My lips parted and little gasps of air escaped. My eyes trailed the room, trying to make out where I was amidst my blur vision. My head tilted slowly to rest on the left side and that's when I saw it. A blood curling gaze; direct, unwaivering and terrifying. My breath caught the instant our eyes crossed. He was quiet, still but he caused darkness seemed to hover over the room, drenching me with an eerie feeling that sparked tremors in my body. I bit my lip, trying to stay calm. Just waiting for him to speak. He didn't. I decided to go first. My mouth opened but he broke right into any word I was about to utter. “You actually lived. The universe must hate you as much as I do.” My brow furrowed, my eyes fixed on him. His hands were gripping tightly up the metallic chair he sat on, so tight it could bend. His gaze remained transfixed on me, I couldn't see his face because he had a mask on, but I could tell with those bloodshot eyes that he didn't have flower shopping and roses in mind for me. Fear ripple my skin, a shiver starting slowly. I cowered back on the bed. I couldn't go anywhere but more than anything, I wish I could. ‘Hell, Carolina who is this guy? He seems familiar, where have you met. Think. Think because your life depends on it’ I narrowed my gaze on him, flipping through my memories at the same time. What happened last night was still in fragments in my head but then… ‘Gunshots’ I remembered a gunshot and pain tearing through my arm after that. I looked over my shoulder slowly. There was a large bandage wrapped around my arm. That gnawing pain from earlier was coming from here and… I adjusted with difficulty. The pain seemed to be sucking on my wound and contracting even my fingers too. I clenched and unclenched my fist, messaging my fingers. My gaze still on the mask. Then it hit me… ‘I saved him. The bullet was coming at him and in saved him.’ but then, he didn't seem even a little bit grateful. Every glint in his eyes hinted of a shade of hatred I had never seen before. The room intensified by the minute. The beep of the EKG filled the silence as well my racing heart. The man suddenly chuckled, his sick voice breaking into the quiet and jolting me to the edge of the bed. “You know…” he rose from the chair. Dragged it and jammed it against the floor. My heart jumped in trepidation. I gripped onto my poor chest. He towered over me with his intimidating aura and his sinister grin which I swear to the heavens he was wearing although I couldn't see it myself. He sat down and leaned forward, close to me. “The more I look at you the more it seems hard to believe. Do you know what I had to go through just to find you? How many men I sent? How many I killed.” He slipped his hand on my mine, I flinched trying to snag it back. His hold tightened, he yanked my hand off the bed and held it to my face. “These fingers… I've dreamed of chopping them off for a while “ he whispered, sadistically ignoring the horror that covered my facials. “But you know that. Even if it's not exact, you know that I will kill you when I see you and that's why I can't help but wonder, why did you show up in front of me, Zylaria.” My eyes grew wider. I gulped. ‘What the hell is that? Is he delusional. That's not good at all.’ “Did you think I won't do anything to you after all you did. Oh, Zylaria you’ve always been so bold and stupid. Well, I am not that man from years ago. Since you came right to me, I will make sure you get exactly what you want.” He leered even closer and licked his tongue. “I'm hell Zylaria. I will break you and burn you.” I grit my teeth and shut my eyes, breathing slowly. Mustering the courage. Maniac or not, I wasn't getting out of this with my lips sealed. “I know you are angry but I'm sorry. I'm not Zylaria. My name is Carolina…” “Shut up!” He yelled and my heart skipped. I nearly jumped off the bed. “Shut the f**k up. Denying who you are… getting a new name, do you think that changes anything about you?!” I held his gaze, keeping an empty but firm expression. “Look. You really have the wrong person. I am not and I have never been Zylaria. You hurt me, you hurt the wrong person.” “You are really going with this, aren't you?” His eyes stared me down and he leaned back, almost baffled by my boldness. “You really think you can lie your way out of this. Well, it worked for you in the past, I'm not surprised you are still using it.” “I'm not lying, I swear. This-” I groaned a little as I shuffled a nit to show him my bullet wound. “I got it protecting you. I'm presuming this Zylaria person is bad then she wouldn't take a bullet for you. But I did, without thinking twice because I'm Carolina and not Zylaria.” “Shut…up.” He leaned forward again. His eyes seemed to glint of red for a second. At the bar, when I fell, I had fallen into his arms and his eyes had done the same. Who the hell is this guy? “It's alright. Let see how well you can pretend when the truth is right in front of you.” He hinged his hand on his masked. My breath seized watching with my heart pounding against my chest as he slipped the black cover off and it dropped to the floor.
