I drove onward down the back roads of Burnet County, a twisting trail that no one could follow. We’d made it out alive, and it was time to tie up the loose ends to make sure we stayed that way. “Denise, call this number for me.” I fished a card from my wallet. “Ask for Ernie at Central Texas Wreckers. Tell him to pick up Jeff’s Silverado at the motel. Say it’s a favor for Trip.
