{Celeste ‘s POV} (This chapter contains themes of abuse, assault, and s/a, reader discretion is advised.” When I woke up this morning I wasn’t expecting to see the scene in front of me. Veryn and Dayus were on either side of the pillows that I had on both sides of me, asleep. They must’ve watched over me all night. They said they didn’t need to sleep, but they both seem completely exhausted. I carefully crawled to the foot of the bed, trying hard not to wake them. I quietly slid off the bed, and made my way back upstairs, making myself a cup of coffee. I sat on the couch, wrapping myself in a fuzzy blanket and drinking my coffee, before picking up my phone and looking down at it. Four missed calls.. two from an unknown number, one from Mr. Jacobs, and one from Rebekah Dyer. I forgot to call the school.. I’m in so much trouble. There’s no way I’m going to get out of this without at least getting written up. I quickly called back Mr. Jacobs, waiting for him to answer. “Hello, Ms. Thompson, I was calling earlier regarding your no call no show today.” He said, as he answered the phone. “Mr. Jacobs, I’m so sorry, I meant to call.. last night I was in an incident, the police were involved, and they’re still here. I’m afraid I won’t be able to come in for a couple of weeks. If you need me to make a formal statement, along with bringing in the paperwork from the police department on the incident, I will be more than happy to do so, but I’m afraid I cannot go out alone for the foreseeable future.” I replied trying to remain calm. “An incident involving the police, are you injured?” He asked, a bit of worry coming through his voice. “No sir, I’m fine, luckily I wasn’t alone during this incident, so I was unharmed, but the issue hasn’t been resolved as of yet, and until it is I’m supposed to remain home as much as possible.” I said, walking into the kitchen. He sighed, before responding. “Alright, as long as you’re alright, I suppose that’s all that matters for the time being. I will find a sub for your class for the next few weeks, and I do expect to at the very least get an email pertaining to the issue at hand. I guess we will see you back when the situation is resolved.” “Yes sir, thank you, I’ll be back as soon as can, and I will get an email to you as soon as possible.” I said, before hanging up the phone and walking back into the living room, I flopped backwards onto the couch with a heavy sigh. I guess that’s a good thing, I don’t seem to be in any trouble, but at the same time, I can’t help but feel as though I’ve put Mr. Jacobs in a terrible position. I laid back on the couch, and slowly dozed off, not waking until hours later, and finding the evening sky outside had replaced the sun. I groaned, sitting up and stretching my back out. The sun was barely peaking through the windows, as it set over the mountains, bits of rays pouring through the trees of the forests that surrounded this old house. A creak from the kitchen drew my attention, and as I turned, horror set in. The piercing blue eyes, filled with anger, and hatred staring back at me. “M-Mason..” I whispered, backing away towards the bookshelf. “How did you get in here? The police.. they’re outside!” He chuckled, walking towards me. “The police officer that’s out there is a lazy bas****, though, I guess that’s makes me lucky. He fell asleep thirty minutes ago, the next cop won’t be here for three hours, and I made sure that I put some headphones on the sleeping officer out front. He won’t hear a thing.” I backed up against the bookshelf, trying to turn the knob, but he grabbed me by the shoulders and threw me down onto the ground. He jumped down on top of me, punching me across the face, blow after blow landing as I felt my face begin to split open in different places. I cried out in pain, as I turned to the side slightly, spiting some blood that had began filling my mouth. “Get off me!” I screamed, bunching up my legs and kicking him in the stomach, knocking him backwards. I stood up, and ran for the door flinging it open and trying to wake the officer. Suddenly, my legs were swooped out from under me, as I fell to the ground with a loud thud. My vision went dark, and when I woke up, I could see Mason in front of me. He was sitting with an amused expression on his face. “You’re so ugly.. no one is going to want you now.” He laughed. “Don’t forget Celeste, you will always be mine.” He sneered at me, gripping my throat. “I missed this.. our little talks, our quality time together. Didn’t you miss this?” He asked, lifting a piece of my hair and sniffing it. “That is.. until you called the police on me.. you had me arrested. You got a restraining order, and look now, look at what that’s done for you. You should have just stayed as my good girl, but instead, you had to bite the hand that feeds you.” He shouted, gripping my jaw and forcing it open. He poured vodka down my throat, and I sat up spitting it at him. “Fu** you!” I seethed through gritted teeth. He stood up, wiping himself off. “You stupid bi***!” He snapped, smacking me hard across the face sending me falling off the couch. “You just never learn, do you?” He chuckled dryly, gripping my throat and squeezing hard. I coughed, choking, as I grabbed and clawed at his hand, trying to pull it away. When suddenly I heard the door behind the bookcase creak open. He turned, looking towards it, and took off running from the house, a coward afraid to fight when it came to men, but so easy to hurt me. I heard the door fling open, the cop being startled, gunshots, then an exasperated sigh. “Hey, hey, look at me Celeste!” I could hear Dayus’ worried voice, and footsteps running away. “Veryn! Don’t, we need to help Celeste!” Dayus said. I stayed huddled in a ball, not allowing them to see what he had done to me, not wanting them to see how small and insignificant I really am, at least, that I really felt in this very moment.
