“It’s obviously something Celeste! What is it? Please, just tell us, we can protect you!” Veryn said, his voice smooth, and calming, something that I’m not used to from him.
I shook my head, backing away from the two of them. I didn’t want them to know, I didn’t want anyone to know. It’s too awful, it’s too painful, and I can’t have them keep looking at me, like they are right now. “I said it’s nothing, and he’s no one! Leave it alone, both of you!” I shouted, before turning, but when I did panic began to set in once again as I saw Mason outside, walking up to the front door. “No..” I whispered, backing back into the kitchen. The doorbell rang, and I froze, I froze staring him down, and as he peered in through the window next to the door, he saw me. The smirk that spread across his face made my stomach churn, as I turned quickly and threw up into the trash can.
“What the he**!” Veryn shouted running towards the door, as Dayus pulled my hair back.
“Veryn! Stop!” I shouted, and he froze, turning back to face me. “Don’t open that door!” I whimpered, grabbing my phone from my purse and pulling up the call screen. I dialed 911, and turned it to face Mason. When he saw the number on the screen, his face turned dark, the smirk replaced with a look of pure rage as he punched the door before turning and running back to his car. I dialed the number and when I got an answer, I cried out. “I need to report a crime.. harassment, stalking, and the violation of a restraining order!”
Veryn and Dayus both looked down at me, their eyes darting back towards the door. “My name is Celeste Thompson..” I answered the woman on the phone. “His name..” I gulped, not even wanting to speak it. “Mason Wright..” I whimpered, a strangled sob escaping me. “He’s come to my house three times now.. he keeps showing up.. he’s not supposed to be within 500 feet of me, he isn’t even allowed to contact me at all, even through social media, email, text, or calls, and yet he’s been to my house.” I nodded, as the woman told me that they were sending out some officers to search the grounds, and they’d be putting out a warrant for his arrest for violating his restraining order. “Please.. just, find him, I can’t keep seeing him like this, he just keeps popping up..” I hung up once we were done talking, she said that the officers would be here soon, but Dayus and Veryn both just stared down at me, obviously confused.
“That’s Mason? The guy that you ran off with years ago? Now you’re avoiding him?” Veryn scoffed.
I expected as much out of him, he hated that I left nana to run off with Mason, and if I’m honest, I hate that I chose the way I did too. “Veryn! It’s obvious that something happened, she has a restraining order against him!” Dayus snapped, slapping Veryn’s chest.
Veryn rolled his eyes and looked down at me. “What’d he do? Did he run off with some other girl?” He chuckled.
I shook my head, my whole body tensing up and tears began spilling down my cheeks. “Shut up Veryn! You don’t know what you’re talking about!” I shouted, my body beginning to shake as pure terror coursed through me.
“Why, am I on the right track, and it just makes you so upset to remember that the person that you abandoned your nana for, abandoned you too?” He scoffed.
Memories began pouring back into me, as I turned, stumbling against the kitchen island and threw up again. I shook my head, pain ceasing my chest, making it difficult to breathe. I could feel his body against mine, his hot breath in my face, I threw up again, falling to my hands and knees in the floor.
“Celeste..” Veryn’s voice changed, now it was filled with worry, he grabbed a bag and handed it to me.
I threw up again, my body beginning to shake uncontrollably. “No.. no please..” was all I could mutter as I sat back onto my butt on the floor and pulled my knees to my chest. I buried my head in my hands, and cried, my breathing becoming ragged, and broken as tears poured down my face.
Dayus froze next to me, his body tensing up. “Did he.. did he hurt you?” He asked, his voice sounding deadly.
I didn’t look up, I couldn’t bring myself to, instead I stayed locked in fetal position, rocking back and forth, crying and muttering curses under my breath. Veryn moved beside me, picking me up and setting me down on the kitchen island, he pulled my face up to look at him, his face was serious, filled with anger, and worry all at once. “Did he hurt you Celeste? Tell me!” He shouted.
I nodded, bringing my hands up and covering my face as I sobbed hysterically. “What did he do?” Dayus seethed out through gritted teeth.
I shook my head, closing my eyes tight, refusing to look at either of them. I could’t do this, I didn’t want them to see me so pitiful, to know what he did to me, how he broke me.
Veryn gripped the sides of my face gently, brushing away the tears that had streamed down my face. “What did he do Celeste, you need to tell us!”
About that time, the doorbell rang, I hated that as it did I jumped up, launching myself into Veryn’s arms as I cried out. Dayus looked to the door, and back to us. “It’s the cops, I’ll go let them in.” He said, quickly making his way to the door and letting the police in. They came into the kitchen, and looked over me.
“Ms. Thompson.. due to the seriousness of his previous charges, we’ve decided to post a few cops around your house in case he comes back. We’ve also put out a warrant for his arrest, and made sure that there are flyers being hung up around town. We will find him as soon as possible.” One of the officer’s said, taking off his hat and placing it gently on his chest.
“What do you mean? The seriousness of his previous charges?” Dayus asked, looking between the officers and me.
“Well..” the officer began. “Legally, we’re not allowed to disclose any information without Ms. Thompson’s approval.” He said, nodding to me.
I shook my head, and closed my eyes gripping Veryn’s shirt tightly as I buried my face into his chest. “Please.. just don’t talk about it anymore! Please, just find him, and arrest him again.. I’m going to have to take time off from the job that I just started today because of him. I don’t want to think about him any longer than I have to!” I cried out, too afraid to look out from my safe place in Veryn’s arms.
