Black Out

Delilah's POV My feet move rapidly as I try to keep up with Cecile. She speeds among the tall trees, rushing back to the house. There's a gap between us due to how fast she is. The air in my lungs begins to lessen, but there's no time to stop and catch my breath. I continue to push one leg before the other as we race down. I can't imagine a situation where I get marauded by a rogue in these woods. No, I can't end up like that. So I keep running as fast as I can. "omph!" I trip over a hole in the ground and fall flat on my face. The impact causes my head to ache. I push myself up and try to stand up again but my ankle hurts. Sitting up, I hold it and find it's twisted. A sharp pain shoots through my leg when I try to move it. "oww..." I cry with a grimace. Cecile must have gone far by now. I don't think she noticed when I fell. "Cecile!" I call out to her. "Cecile!" The sound of someone approaching causes me to keep quiet. It's a bit distant but fast. It must be a rogue. At the realisation, my mind goes berserk. I try to pull myself to a standing position. The pain in my leg makes it difficult. It's like a blunt rod is being driven into my ankle joint. Without reducing its speed, the rogue runs me over. I quickly use my hands to protect my face. When it tries to run me over the second time, I quickly roll away and bring out my gun. It turns and faces me with a growl. It starts running towards me and I pull the trigger, shooting it in the head. It lets out a shout of pain. Cecile arrives just in time to see it fall to its death. "Delilah, are you okay?" she asks, rushing to meet me on the ground. "I was so focused on getting to the house, I didn't know you weren't with me until I heard you calling." She looks down at my hand holding onto my ankle. "It's sprained," she confirms and helps me to my feet. The rogue's body is on the ground, lifeless. "Let's go," she says, and we walk together out of the woods. The alpha quarters are not so far away any longer. But the impact of the rogue attack starts to tell on me. "ouch!" I grimace and place my hand on my abdomen. A sharp pain in my umbilical region causes me to lean forward. "Just hang on in there, we will soon arrive," Cecile encourages me. I continue to limp beside her, trying to be strong. My head aches badly and my vision has started to blur. I fight against the dizzy spell, willing my eyes open. Then I feel the fever. My body becomes hotter than usual. Suddenly, I find it difficult to breathe properly. My steps become wobbly.. Cecile tries as much as possible to hold me up. "Domt worry, we're almost there," she assures me. A short distance away I can sight the alpha quarters. Cecile leads me up the staircase leading to the main entrance. Diana notices us while coming down the stairs. "Oh my gosh! What happened?" she asks in alarm. She rushes down the stairs and straight to us. "We were attacked by rogues," Cecile replies. "Goodness gracious. Let's get her cleaned up. This way," she leads us to one of the doors in the foyer and opens it. Inside there's a woman brewing herbs. "Sit her there," she tells Cecile and turns to the woman. "She has a sprained ankle and a scratch on her arm." The woman is chubby and looks to be in her mid-fifties. Some of her hair has started to grey. She quickly assesses me visually and comes to examine my ankle. "Oww!" I let out in a low voice. Despite the pain, I'm too weak to shout. She looks at the scratch on my arm. Blood leaks out of it slowly. "I will need to take a sample of her blood to check if the wound is poisoned." "And her ankle?" Diana asks. The woman looks down at my ankle again. "Her ankle is really bad but it isn't sprained. It's dislocated. Although her fast healing should help." Fast healing? I hope she isn't depending on my barely existing werewolf abilities. Cecile and I glance at each other. She must be able to see the fear in my eyes. The woman takes hold of my leg. "This will hurt a little," she says and twists it back into position. "Ahh!!!" I'm not able to hold in my shout this time. It feels like my ankle joint is being hacked with a hatchet. Cecile holds my hand to comfort me and I tighten my grip on her in pain. The woman brings a cold compress and places it on my leg. Next, she takes a piece of white cloth, soaks it in a strange liquid and puts it on the scratch on my arm. The liquid stings and I shut my eyes tightly to hold in the pain. A groan escapes me. "This will grant her relief whether the injury is poisoned or not." My body starts heating up. Beads of sweat roll down my face. I can feel it inside my clothes. It makes me restless combined with the recurrent dizzy spells. "Just hang in there, Delilah. You're going to be fine," Cecile tells me. My strength continues to weaken as the pain becomes dull. "Take her to this bed," the woman says to Diana and Cecile. Diana comes and holds me. "Alright, Delilah, let's get you to the bed. You can rest there okay?" I can't even manage to nod in reply to her statement. She and Cecile hold me by my arms and help me to my feet. The bed is just some steps away. There shouldn't be any issue in getting to it. I take the first step and my eyes start to blur. The bed begins to spin in my vision and everywhere begins to darken. Next thing I'm falling to the floor and everything becomes black.
