CHAPTER THIRTY The next morning, before the light of dawn, Peter sits straight up in the bed, gasping for air. Sarah awakens, squealing, and falls to the floor. She rolls, pulling the silk covers off the bed. Peter falls back onto his pillows. Sarah stands at the side of the bed, clinging to the covers around her. She watches his chest rise and fall, breathing back to normal. He even snores a bit. Rolling her eyes, she smirks to herself, and puts the covers back on them, falling back asleep. Not two hours later, the bird comes calling, waking Sarah, and she moves to Peter’s side of the bed. “Peter, are you alright? Will you wake up?” She nudges his shoulder. Peter groans. A wave of relief washes over Sarah. She puts a hand to her chest. A tear makes its way to the corner of her eye.
