12 12Like many of the shops and businesses on the island, the police station was officially closed for several hours during the afternoon, but only to the public: the police force, of course, never rested. Day was given an appointment to see Inspector Tsountas at six o’clock in the evening when the station officially re-opened. “That’s not bad,” said Day. “I expect we’ll need a drink once we’ve finished with Tsountas.” Their reception at the police station at six o’clock was more civil than Day had come to expect, which could have been because they had an appointment, or, as Day liked to think, because Helen was with him.
