Want a sister

As soon as the news broke, the group chat exploded with activity. Even the security guard, who had been lurking for years, joined in with a question mark. "Is this the boss lady's exclusive mark? My dreams are shattered!" "They should've been shattered long ago. You think you can even dream of the boss?" "If you don't have dreams, what's the difference between you and a salted fish?" "Off-topic, off-topic, is this the time to discuss dreams? It's a hickey!" "I saw it earlier. It's definitely a hickey. Looks like the boss had a harmonious night!" Henry hadn't even reached the office when his phone started pinging with notifications. When he opened the chat, he froze in place. What on earth! The boss and that woman... Henry's face turned pale as he cursed himself for not staying on guard last night. He shouldn't have left, then that woman wouldn't have had a chance. He hurried to the office, his heart pounding. He was sure Martin Riley was on the verge of a meltdown. In his rush, he even forgot to knock. But when he pushed open the office door, he found Martin sitting at his desk, not angry as expected, but rather looking a bit puzzled and confused. "Sir, I..." Martin looked up, the confusion on his face vanishing instantly. "Perfect timing. Get the recent records from the finance department organized and sent to me. We're preparing for a meeting." "Uh, okay, but..." Henry's lips moved as his eyes caught sight of Martin's neck. He softly reminded, "Sir, your neck..." "Sir, your neck..." Martin Riley instinctively touched his neck. "What's wrong?" he asked, but then seemed to remember something, and his ears turned a bit red. He cleared his throat to cover his embarrassment. "I got it. Go prepare for the morning meeting." Henry wandered out of the room in a daze. Even when a colleague dragged him into the break room, he was still confused. Why was the boss so calm about it? It was too understated, and Henry could even sense a hint of shyness? Shyness? Was this really the Martin Riley he knew, the decisive and formidable figure in the business world? Had he been replaced by someone else? "Henry? Henry? Henry, snap out of it! Are you even listening to us?" The assistant from the finance department smacked Henry on the arm. "Henry, we're asking you about the boss's neck... those marks..." "Stop gossiping during work hours. The morning meeting is about to start. How's your department doing lately? Do you have any idea? And yet you still have time for gossip? Get ready for the meeting!" Henry couldn't stand hearing those words anymore. Feeling irritated, he gulped down a strong coffee and left the break room. The finance assistant was left speechless. She couldn't help but feel that Henry's tone carried a hint of resentment. Hazel Morgan hadn't even entered the office when she heard the gossip. Her face turned pale as she gripped her phone tightly, her eyes filled with anger. If it hadn't been for that woman interfering, Hazel Morgan would have been the one with Martin Riley last night. She couldn't swallow this resentment. "Sylvia Byrne, you forced my hand!" Hazel clenched her fists, a fierce determination flashing in her eyes. After the morning meeting ended, Martin Riley sat in his office, leaning back in his chair, pressing his fingers to his temples, feeling a headache coming on. During the meeting, he could clearly sense the curious glances from everyone, their eyes frequently landing on his neck, unable to hide their gossiping nature."Sigh." Martin sighed, still unable to understand why he had lost control the previous night. But what's done is done, and the divorce would have to be postponed for now. --- Downstairs, little Otto was watching cartoons on the couch, occasionally glancing at the staircase. If it weren't for the nanny stopping him, he would have dashed upstairs already. Mommy had been sleeping all morning. Why hadn't she come down yet? Was it because she fell too hard this morning? Otto turned to look at the nanny busy in the kitchen, then quietly slipped off the couch. Seizing the moment, his little legs moved swiftly as he hurried upstairs. When he entered the room, Crystal Foster was still asleep. Otto didn't say a word, just sat quietly by the bed, tilting his little head to watch her, a smile permanently etched on his face. Perhaps it was the intensity of his gaze, but Crystal eventually woke up. As she opened her eyes, she saw the adorable little figure sitting by her bed. She smiled softly, sat up, and pulled Otto onto the bed to sit with her. "Otto, what time is it?" "Mommy, you sure can sleep! It's already noon. I wanted to come up earlier, but Auntie wouldn't let me." Otto's tiny hand tugged at Crystal Foster's, his sweet little voice melting her heart. "Let's go down and have lunch."Crystal got up, washed up, and held Otto's hand as they went downstairs. The housekeeper, seeing Otto wasn't around, knew he had gone upstairs. When she saw them coming down, she called them over to eat. "Ma'am, this is goji berry chicken soup. I made it especially for you. Drink it while it's hot." The housekeeper's words almost made Crystal lose her composure. Looking at the soup in front of her and then at the eager look on the housekeeper's face, she forced herself to drink it. After lunch, Crystal lay on the couch with Otto to watch TV, but the little guy wasn't interested in the show. Instead, he kept staring at Crystal—or more precisely, at her belly. "Otto, why are you staring at Mommy? Is there something on my face?" Crystal poked Otto's dimples, smiling playfully. Otto shook his head. "Mommy, I saw on TV that when a mommy and daddy sleep together, they have a baby sister. Do you have a sister in your tummy?" "Uh, uh, uh..." Crystal was taken aback by Otto's innocent question, quickly covering his mouth, her face full of surprise. "What kind of shows are they airing these days? They're not suitable for little kids like you." "But Mommy, you haven't answered me yet. Do you have a baby sister in your tummy? Or is it a brother? I really want a sister."Otto's sweet voice and big round eyes were fixed on Crystal, as if he was already convinced there was a sister in her belly. Crystal Foster almost lost her breath and decided it was time to have a serious talk with Otto. "Otto, listen to Mommy. Having a little sister isn't possible right now. Think about it—if you had a sister, Mommy's attention would have to be on her, and I might not have as much time to care for you. Would you be okay with that?" She wasn't really Sylvia Byrne, so having a child with Martin Riley was out of the question, especially since he was always talking about divorce. Otto's wish was destined to remain unfulfilled. Otto was indeed taken aback by Crystal's words. He lowered his head, furrowing his brow in deep thought. After a long pause, he hugged Crystal tightly, feeling both upset and guilty. "Then let's not have a sister for now. I want Mommy to love me a little more. We can think about a sister later." Crystal nearly cried as she hugged Otto tightly. "Mommy promises to always love you dearly."
