The kind lady showed Jane to her room. She was gentle and softly spoken, but she wasn"t Mrs Cavendish. No-one could live up to Mrs Cavendish. Mrs Foster explained the running of the house and left Jane to settle in. Jane thanked her new landlady then sat on the bed as she left and closed the door behind her. Jane looked around again at the room she"d seen the day before. It was a nice room; basic, but clean and light. Bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, dressing table, chair. She hung her three donated outfits in the wardrobe and placed her underclothes and nightdress in the top drawer of the chest. She had no need of the other two drawers at present, her own clothes being in a drawer underneath 20 Alderney Street. Slipping off her shoes she lay back on the bed. Monday tomorrow. So much for
