  Charles's POV   The evening air was thick with tension as I sat in my clinic, staring at the unopened medical journal on my desk. The rumors about Avery had spread like wildfire, painting her in a rather unjust and cruel light.   And now, word had reached me that her father, in his obsession with controlling her life, had locked her away.   I couldn't sit still. The thought of Avery, locked in her room, desperate and alone, twisted something deep in my chest. This wasn't right. None of it was right. She didn't deserve this. It was too unsettling.   It was nearing midnight when I finally made my decision. Grabbing my coat, I stepped out into the cool night, the streets eerily silent.
