We walk out of the pack house and go to my car. It is a white 2008 BMW 335xi. It’s nothing new but it’s Lindsey’s absolute favorite.
We hop in and a few minutes later we pull up to Pops. Pops is a small diner. They’re nothing fancy but they’re the sweetest and have the best breaded tenderloins. Pops is my go to place to eat. Lindsey’s too. We walk in and sit at a booth in the corner.
“What can I get you girls?” Jenny ask as she walks up. Jenny is an older lady who has been here for as long as I can remember. She’s got short curly white hair and an apron tied around her. She takes our order and goes behind the counter to put it in.
“Oh gosh, here we go,” Lindsey says as she puts her head in her hands.
“What do you mean?” I ask. She looks up and nods her head towards the door. I turn around and my good mood instantly turns sour.
Ashley is walking up to us a with a fake smile plastered on her face. Ashley is a platinum blonde wannabe model. She stands tall at 5 feet 9 inches. She always has a crap ton of makeup caked on her face and overlines her very thin lips to try and make them look full. In my opinion it looks like a 2 year old put her lipstick on. Ashley is also Zane’s sister.
“Well look what the pup drug in!” She says.
“What do you want Ashley?” I say while rubbing my head.
“Always so rude Aria! Lindsey, find your mate yet?” She ask with a fake innocent expression plastered on her face.
“Have you?” Lindsey ask with her eyebrows raised.
“The alpha meeting is tomorrow and I expect you BOTH to stay far away. I don’t need you throwing yourselves at the alphas. You are of beta and gamma blood. So don’t worry, your mates won’t be there. Or even if they are, they definitely wouldn’t claim either of you,” Ashley says with a smirk.
“What’s wrong Ashley? Worried they’ll turn you down if they see us? Everyone knows you’ll be throwing yourself at each alpha tomorrow. I wouldn’t worry about it. Surely at least one will be desperate enough to entertain the idea of you.” I say with a smile.
She looks at me and if looks could kill I’d most certainly be dead. Before she can say a word, Jenny walks up with our food. Ashley smiles at Jenny and walks away. Lindsey and I look at each other and roll our eyes.
Ashley use to be one of our best friends. We were all in school at the time. Back then, Lindsey had a boyfriend. It was nothing serious of course. We were all only around the age of 15. But Ashley was jealous that Lindsey had a boyfriend. The next thing we know it’s Monday and Ashley comes in holding Lindsey’s boyfriends hand. When they walked past us she said “alpha blood always wins”. Since then, we have all hated each other.
Lindsey and I finish our food and stand up to leave. It’s delicious as always. We hop in my car and head back to Crescent Moon.
We pull up to the pack house and see everyone inside running around frantically. Most likely they are getting everything ready for the meeting. Crescent moon hardly ever host Alpha meetings here seeing how we are such a small pack.
“Well I’ll see you later Aria. I’m gonna go see if my dad needs help with anything!” Lindsey says as she heads into the pack house.
I decide to go for a jog so I head up to my room to get changed. I come back downstairs and head out the door. I take off running into the forest. After about twenty minutes I arrive at the pond. I debate for a few second and decide to go for a swim. I take off my shoes and clothes and start to walk into the water. I’m completely naked and bare, but In the lives of wolves, that’s normal. When we shift into our wolves our clothes shred if we have any on. It’s not like in the movie when werewolves shift back and are magically fully clothed.
I’m pulled from my thoughts as I hear a brand crack and some leaves rustle. I turn my head towards the sound searching for the source of the sound. I stay frozen, careful not to make even the slightest noise. I inhale deeply and my sense go on high alert at the foul smell. It’s smells like rotten eggs and spiked milk. The signature scent of rogues. I carefully wade out of the water quietly, still listening for any other sounds. I look around and see nothing and after a few minutes, the scent fades. I quickly get dressed and head back to the pack house. Rogues on the territory are normal. They sometimes accidentally cross the border. But you can never be too careful.
