  ELARA   I leaned in, peering deeper into the drawer. The letter was gone. Gone! How? Where?   I was certain I'd placed it there earlier. Could one of the rogues have snuck upstairs during the fight? No, that wasn't possible. Even if they had, the letter would've meant nothing to them. Gerald? Could he have found it?   Several thoughts warred in my head as I hastily slipped on my slippers and grabbed the black shawl I had snuck from my father's room while fetching clothes for Gerald. I sprinted to the door.
