HIDDEN HEARTS
EPISODE 15: THE NEW GIRL
Monday morning arrived with unexpected excitement.
Students crowded the hallways, whispering among themselves.
Something was happening.
Something new.
Elena noticed it immediately.
"Why is everyone acting weird?" she asked.
Mia looked up from her phone.
"Oh, you haven't heard?"
"Heard what?"
Mia grinned.
"We have a new student."
Elena shrugged.
That didn't seem important.
Students transferred all the time.
But when she entered the classroom, she realized this transfer was different.
Everyone was staring.
Especially the boys.
---
A girl stood at the front of the room beside the teacher.
She was beautiful.
Long dark hair.
Confident smile.
Perfect posture.
The kind of person who seemed comfortable in any room she entered.
The teacher cleared his throat.
"Class, this is Sophia Bennett. She transferred here last week."
Sophia smiled.
"Nice to meet everyone."
Half the boys in class suddenly sat up straighter.
Mia leaned toward Elena.
"This is going to be interesting."
---
Unfortunately, Mia was right.
Very right.
Because Sophia's eyes moved across the room.
Then stopped.
On Jayden.
Elena noticed immediately.
And for some reason, that bothered her.
---
After class, students surrounded Sophia.
Everyone wanted to talk to her.
Everyone wanted to know where she came from.
Everyone except Elena.
She packed her books and prepared to leave.
Until she heard Sophia's voice.
"Excuse me."
Elena looked up.
Sophia was standing right in front of her.
"You're Elena, right?"
Elena blinked.
"Yes."
Sophia smiled warmly.
"I've heard about you."
That was strange.
Very strange.
Because Elena couldn't imagine why.
---
The rest of the conversation was perfectly polite.
But something felt off.
Not wrong.
Just unusual.
Like Sophia knew more than she should.
---
At lunch, things became worse.
Much worse.
Because Sophia sat beside Jayden.
Without hesitation.
Without nervousness.
Without asking anyone's permission.
She simply sat down and started talking.
Like she'd known him for years.
---
Across the cafeteria, Elena looked away immediately.
She wasn't interested.
Not at all.
Absolutely not.
At least, that's what she told herself.
---
Mia followed her gaze.
Then smiled.
A dangerous smile.
"Oh."
"What?"
"You looked."
"I didn't."
"You absolutely did."
Elena sighed.
This conversation again.
---
Meanwhile, Derek was enjoying every second of the situation.
"This is hilarious."
Jayden frowned.
"What is?"
Derek pointed discreetly.
"The fact that you're completely unaware of what's happening."
Jayden looked confused.
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Exactly."
---
For the next few days, Sophia seemed to appear everywhere.
The cafeteria.
The library.
The courtyard.
And strangely enough...
Always near Jayden.
---
Rumors began spreading quickly.
Some students already believed Sophia and Jayden would become the school's newest couple.
Others were excited about the possibility.
A few students even started placing bets.
High school students were ridiculous.
---
Elena tried not to care.
She really did.
But every time she saw Sophia laughing beside Jayden, something twisted uncomfortably inside her chest.
A feeling she didn't like.
A feeling she couldn't explain.
---
Friday afternoon arrived.
The last class had ended.
Students were leaving.
Elena was gathering her books when she heard voices outside the classroom.
One voice belonged to Sophia.
The other belonged to Jayden.
She wasn't trying to listen.
She just happened to hear it.
"Would you like to go to the Winter Dance with me?" Sophia asked.
Everything around Elena suddenly felt very quiet.
Too quiet.
Her hands froze.
Her heart stopped.
Just for a second.
Then she heard Jayden's answer.
And it changed everything.
"I can't."
Sophia sounded surprised.
"Why not?"
A pause followed.
A long one.
Then Jayden smiled slightly.
"Because there's already someone else."
And before Sophia could ask another question, he walked away.
Leaving her standing there.
Leaving Elena completely speechless.
Because for the first time...
She allowed herself to hope.
And hope was a very dangerous thing.
