“Thanks for saving me back there” I whispered to Blake as we watched Mr. Fisher walk out of the building through the window.
“Are you kidding? That was just gross and completely unprofessional. I’m glad you turned things to be back on track, but if he ever pulls something like that again, screw the deal, I will kick his ass”
I giggled, “Thanks Blake. I hope it’s alright I volunteered you to travel with me next week. Will Steph be upset?”
Stephanie was Blakes gorgeous wife. She had thick dark black hair and genuinely looked like a super model. She was a lawyer and was absolutely brilliant. She also scared the hell out of me. Most of the time I swear she could read my thoughts and knew how crazy about Blake I was, but she never said anything. She just continued to keep every conversation with me very curt and to the point.
“Meh, she will be fine with it. She is actually on a big case all of next week, so I wasn’t going to see her much anyways”
I nodded and turned to face him instead of the window. “Well, how do you feel about going out for a drink tonight? We can invite the office and you should ask Steph to join us. This deal is worth celebrating, wouldn’t you say?”
“I couldn’t agree more!” Blake smiled, throwing his feet up on the desk and leaning back in his chair.

The bar was packed.
Granted it was a Friday, so it didn’t seem unusual. But their were so many people that it was hard to tell where one person ended and another began. It was just a large ball of limbs.
I headed to the bar and ordered a cocktail. I didn’t really know when Blake would arrive, so I took my drink and tried to make my way to any table. I found one in the corner and checked my phone to look busy. I had a message from Lilly. She is my best friend. She also works for strata in the HR department, which couldn’t be more of a perfect job for her. She is one of the HR people you can’t help but adore because they slightly break small rules all the time, or tend to not always say the most professional thing.
Lillies message said “I’m running late. Order me a drink plz”
I rolled my eyes and began the journey back to the bar. While the bartender was making her drink, I felt an arm run around my waist. I turned to see Derek, another salesman, standing beside me.
“Hey sexy. How’s it hanginnn?” He slurred. He was clearly very drunk.
I smiled and pulled his arm away from my waist. “Just great Derek. You seem to be having fun”
“Not really. I’m lonely” he pouted with his lower lip sticking out so far he could have tripped over it. “Will you keep me company?”
“Sorry man. She already promised to keep me company tonight.”
Both Derek and I turned to see Blake standing beside us in some dark jeans and a white v neck tee shirt. I could feel myself drooling. His muscles bulged from the shirt and for a moment I pictured him pushing me up to the bar and making out with me right then and there.
Without waiting for a response from Derek, Blake pulled me by the hand back to the corner where I had been sitting. My hand tingled where he held it. He leaned in and said “that guy gives me the creeps. Be careful around him, okay?”
I nodded.
“Where is Steph?”
“She is working late.”
“Oh..sorry!”
He released my hand. I hadn’t realized he was still holding it.
“Hey, thanks again for helping with that deal today. I’m stoked that we closed it”
He then gently grabbed my waist and leaned in to give me a soft kiss on the cheek.
What was happening? Was Blake drunk? I hadn’t seen him drink anything yet and he didn’t act drunk.
In that moment Lilly came running into me and gave a loud squeal. “I can’t believe you guys nailed that deal!” She yelled, squeezing both Blake and my arm.
She then immediately began chattering away and when I told her I didn’t have her drink yet, she angrily drug me to the bar to get one, leaving Blake standing at the table alone.
I didn’t see him again the rest of the night.
