The Crush Effect

1043 Words
Alice rolled on her bed for the 10th time. She smiled to herself as her nose picked up the jasmine scent on the sheets. One thing she loves about this fictional world is the comfy bed, how the duvet feels like she could sink in.If only a certain individual wasn't on her mind. Just when she thought the drama in the banquet was over and she could get some rest,Mr Josh Evans was one of the last guests to go With his wide sincere smile, he walked to her father who pulled him into a hug. 'They must be really close'. She thought to herself. He also cracked some jokes with all of them before his only son came to join him and it was no other than the one and only Adam. Her Adam Evans!! No wonder the name Josh Evans sounded familiar, he is Adam's father. Immediately he was introduced to her, Alice found herself unable to breathe. She had seen him earlier but believed he wouldn't be in attendance since he wasn't in the novel. While the other family members engaged in conversation, Alice recited every single french Curse she had ever come across. She had to keep calm. She needed to control her over- excited heart, So she kept reciting the curses and making a fist till her heart rate began to stabilize itself. Atleast for the moment until he extended his hand to her for a hand-shake and she went right back to her frenzy-mode. "I'm sorry for wandering earlier, hope you weren't too offended." Any other person would believe he was sorry, that is if they had gotten over the surprise and the questions on their faces fast enough to process another feeling, but the look he gave her was nothing close to being sorry, it was more like sarcasm and taunting. Alice felt her throat tighten as realization dawned on her. 'He was the wandering guest!!!' She almost cried of embarrassment while a satisfied Adam took back the hand he had stunned her into not taking. "Serves you right. " he whispered to himself. "This is Bruce Williams, a very good friend of mine." Alice watched him switch back to his nonchalant mode as he introduced Bruce whom she hadn't even seen make his appearance. Bruce took his time to greet David white, his impeccable manners managed to impress the man and soon the Stony man was nodding and letting out a small smile. He then proceeded to miss Emma who was already impressed with him even before he had said a word to her. With his forever remaining charming smile still on, he moved to Bethany next. "Happy Birthday." he said, then he presented to her with his other hand a small box wrapped beautifully. To everybody's surprise, except Alice who knew Bethany was going to fall in love with Bruce at first sight, Bethany was totally lost and unable to form a coherent speech, her mother had to carefully tap her to snap her from her reverie before she gave an embarrassed smile. "I am sorry. I guess the fatigue is taking a toll on me." She gracefully apologized and as if planned Alice and Adam sniggered at the same time only to catch each other's action. Quickly, Alice returned her gaze to Bethany who was now appreciating Bruce's thoughtfulness. When Bruce proceeded to greet her, he gave her the same smile he gave others almost automatically and extended his hand. "It's a pleasure meeting you miss..." He looked at her to introduce herself but she just stared at him wondering if he didn't recognize her or he was pretending not to.So they wouldn't have any misconception about her staring, she cut her thought short and replied him. "Alice, Alice White." "It's a great pleasure meeting you Miss White" he said taking her hand in his for a brief handshake. After that, nothing other than the normal greeting had taken place except for very obvious glances Bethany kept throwing at Bruce who was too engaged with other people to notice her efforts. 'If only I could tell you, then I would tell you to not bother yourself, he's going to fall head over heels for you, because you are his destined half.'Alice thought to herself before she heaved a big sigh. The emptying of the hall was so reliving for Alice that she almost danced regardless of whoever was watching, now she could finally have sometime to herself. Before she could debate on whether to go bid everyone goodnight or not, they had all dispersed making the decision for her who was too tired to do otherwise. As she turned for the 11th time, she realized what kept her from sleeping. Unlike every normal person, she wasn't worried about what would happen tomorrow or what would become of her. What nagged her mind and kept her brain alert and her heart restless was Adam. His end wasn't something she wanted to remember, He was just like this in the book, gentle, serious and kind but his seriousness overshadowed his kindness, therefore only the people in his circle and her knew how good he was. But later his character became pathetic and it was painful even for her as a reader, what more then for his parents? Now that she met his Amazing father, he didn't deserve to go through such pain. He was too nice too beautiful too sincere to be punished in that manner and though she haven't met his mother, she also didn't deserve that which will happen. Her crush for Adam's aside, her conscience kept bothering her. 'Was she going to fold her hands and watch a situation, she could change unfold right before her eyes?' 'Was she going to watch jealousy eat up Adam just the way it ate the character Alice?' 'Would destiny send her here for just Alice when she could save others with her knowledge of the future?' Suddenly, she realized her arrival in this world wasn't just for her, it was to save those the writers had condemned. It was to listen those whose cries was never heard. It was to rewrite their story. How she would do that, she would think about it after a god night's sleep
