Chapter 4: Red and handsome

888 Words
"No, that's not true. Bertha is driving. I remember..." The nurse looks at me with concern. "I'm afraid you must have hit your head harder than we thought. There is no one else in the car, miss. You are alone." I find this so confusing. "Wait," I say, my mind racing. "I need to see my belongings. My phone. I need to call Bertha." The nurse nods and hands me a small bag. "Your personal effects, miss. But please, don't stress yourself too much. Your body needs to rest." I search my bag, my heart racing as I find my phone, but the poor thing isn't as lucky as I am - it's broken, damaged. Great, now how am I supposed to reach Bertha? I think. "Miss, while you lie here for days, you have just one visitor," she says, smiling sheepishly. She might be referring to Kai. "Oh, Kai, he's my boyfriend," I say, blushing. "He says he isn't, miss," she says with a skeptical voice. If it isn't Kai, then who could it be? "This guy looks really handsome with red hair and..." "Red hair!" I exclaim, cutting her sentence short. "Yes... red hair," she replies in a low tone. “He paid for all your medical expenses, you no miss getting a private room requires a lot of bundles, he didn't look wealthy from first impression , but he's caring miss.he comes here every evening to check on you. Here's the rewritten text in the present tense: "He pays for all your medical expenses," the nurse says, "and even gets you a private room, which isn't easy to come by. He doesn't look wealthy at first glance, but he's being very caring. He comes to visit you every evening to check on your progress." As she smiles and turns to leave, I stop her. "No, no need to inform him," I say, trying to sound calm. The nurse raises an eyebrow. "But why, miss?" I scan her face, hoping my excuse will pass muster. "He must be very busy, and I don't want to disturb him. He's already doing so much for me." The nurse nods, seemingly accepting my explanation. "Well, that's very thoughtful of you, miss." As she walks away, my mind races. Why would redhair pay for my hospital bills? It makes no sense. I need to get to the bottom of this. First things first, I need to get to the hostel and find Bertha. Maybe she's been taken to another hospital or is in danger too. My head spins with questions and fears, but I know I have to act fast The hospital was quite convenient, the room was spacious with a painting on the wall Here's a continuation of the story: As I stood up, holding onto the bed rail for support, I took in the details of the room. The painting on the wall was a serene landscape, gazing at it calmed me of all my far fetched thoughts. I spotted the water dispenser and plastic cups on the other end of the room , I gulped tastily. My mind began to wander, thinking about my life insurance policy. If I added up the payout, would it be enough to cover the medical expenses? I hoped so, but the thought of relying on the kindness of a stranger still didn't go well with me . I need to add bundles together and pay him to his strange kindness I took a few steps towards the water dispenser, my legs were jelly. I didn't even notice it was bandaged, until now ,as a leap toward the other end , I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror attached to the wall. The reflection staring back was pale with a bandage wrapped around my forehead , with dark circles under the eyes. I looked like I'd been through a war. I knew the real war was on its way ,I have to gain strength from this somehow Suddenly, the door swung open and a figure entered. It was the nurse, carrying a tray with scrambled eggs and a slice of bread "How are you feeling, dear?" she asks, setting the tray down on the bedside table. I hesitated, unsure how to respond. Was I feeling better? Was I feeling anything at all? The events of the past few days were still a blur, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. “Better” I manage to reply forcing a smile , eating the food hastily The meal was delicious “Miss Ray your condition is stable “ she says “And that reminds me I met your guardian at the hall wall” she says “You have seen him right, miss?” she added “Noo … I haven't “ I answer “That's strange I told him you were now , conscious and he locked relieved, that was before I went to the kitchen to get your meal” That should be about ten minutes ago . “Who” I ask “The handsome guy, with redhair” she answers “The one who paid for all your medical expenses” “Hmmm, his name was za… hmm…” “Zarek “ I completed the name “Yes zarek” she affirms .
