I fought the urge to look up and ask the universe if I had angered some celestial being and was now being punished for it. I had never been particularly religious, but at that very moment, I would have prayed if it would have guaranteed me a quick escape from the drama about to unfold in front of my office.
Hell, I would have settled for a fairy godmother to wave a magic wand in the air and make Samuel Bishop disappear. Unfortunately, that wasn’t how real life worked. Or perhaps my guardian angel, along with all the fairies, were seated in a corner with a full tub of popcorn, anxious to see how this scene played out.
I already had a clue of how the scene would unfold and perhaps Kaylee did too because she had gone pale, her eyes so wide they seemed to have doubled in size.
