KAYLEE Groaning quietly, I waited for the caffeine to kick in. I closed my eyes for a second and brought the mug to my lips for another gulp. The coffee was still too hot and my tongue didn’t appreciate the burn, but at that very moment, the need for the wake-up juice was way more important than the well-being of my tongue. It’s a pity I couldn’t pump it straight into my veins. It would probably be more effective than drinking it, I thought, frowning into the cup of dark liquid. Especially since, unlike most people who spoke of being alert after a cup of coffee, that wasn’t me. I needed more than a cup to feel the right way. One cup actually made me more sleepy. This was why I topped up my mug again before I left the breakroom and headed back to my station at the front of the store.
