KAYLEE I scrubbed a palm down my face and then gave my front door an assessing gaze. My heart was still beating too fast, and I was covered in sweat. After Samuel Bishop and his future daughter-in-law-sidekick left my apartment, I went into panic mode. Now, as I stared at the front door locked and barricaded with the kitchen chairs and table, I frowned. It didn’t look steady enough to keep out anyone determined to get into the apartment, but unless I could carry everything I owned, including the bed, to the front of the door, it was hopeless.
