“Why are you so nervous?” Robin asks me. We are in the woods in the human realm. I opened a portal here - it seems to be the only magical power I have.
I look up at him, teeth digging into my bottom lip before I give him the answer. “Caleb told me he would need to use a temporary spell on his sister so that she could spend the day with us. Something about removing her pain for twenty-four hours and thinking about it...”
Robin smiles. “You’re wondering if she is the reason he is in the competition?
“That’s exactly it,” I sigh heavily. “I can only be in one triathlon. You’re not allowed to participate after graduation, but what if Caleb is more in need? What if this sister of his is dying?”
Robin’s expression turns soft. He takes a gentle step closer to me, his hands taking mine.
