Ellen Christian’s easy grin slips from his handsome face as the dreaded L-word hits him. His eyes, usually so full of joy and mirth, are now tinged with sorrow, a deep sadness that reaches all the way down to his soul. He stares at me for a long moment before finally letting out a heavy sigh, his expression turning into one of utter misery. “I wish you hadn’t said that,” he mutters, his voice barely audible above the pounding of my heart in my ears. I c**k my head to one side as I try to comprehend the gravity of what he just said. “But why not?
