"The Fire Incident"

274 Words
A gust of wind slammed the front door with a bang. A young boy who slept alone that night, woke with a start. The rain pelting down loudly on the roof of his house. His parents were out that night, not realising the roaming threat. Rubbing his eyes he turned to switch on his beside light, only to find that the power had gone out. He slipped out of bed and sneaked carefully out his room and down the corridor to were the candles were, fearful as to not wake his parents who he thought had returned home. Struggling to see, the boy tripped over what appeared to be a toy that he had left out previously that day. He shook it off, standing up, thinking it as nothing to worry about. As he continued to walk down the corridor, he realised the further he went the darker it got. His imagination began to run wild. He couldn't help but wonder if it really was a toy that he tripped over. He hurried his steps, grabbed the candles and a match and ran back to his room. Breathing heavily, with shaking hand the boy lit the candle. Thunder boomed. He jumped from fright. Ridiculing himself for being so stupid he made his way to his bed. But then he heard a low rustle and a creepy chuckle. Before he could scream, he felt something smash into the back of his head. He fell to the ground, the lit candle slipping out of his hand. The last thing the boy saw was the light glow of his rug catching alight before everything went pitch black.
