Entering His World

I didn’t pack much. There wasn’t time. Or maybe… I just didn’t see the point. By the time I stepped out of the house, everything already felt distant. The place I had called home no longer felt like mine. Not after tonight. Not after the way everyone had looked at me,like I was something to be erased. The car waiting outside was sleek, black, and silent. Of course it was. Everything about Adrian seemed to exist in quiet control. He was already inside. Waiting. I hesitated for a second before opening the door. Just one second. Like that small pause could somehow change what was about to happen. It didn’t. I slid into the seat without saying a word, the door closing behind me with a soft, final sound. The driver pulled away immediately. No goodbye. No looking back. I kept my eyes on the window as the city lights blurred past, refusing to let myself think too much about what I had just left behind. Or what I was stepping into. “You didn’t bring much.” His voice broke the silence. Calm. Observing. Not questioning. I didn’t turn to look at him. “I don’t need much,” I replied. A lie. But I wasn’t about to admit that everything I actually needed had been taken from me hours ago. Silence settled again. Heavy, but not uncomfortable. Not exactly. More like… measured. Like he was letting me sit in my thoughts while he studied me. That thought alone made me tense. “Where are we going?” I asked after a moment. “My place.” Of course. I finally glanced at him. He looked the same as always, composed, unreadable, like none of this had affected him at all. “Do you always make life-changing decisions this easily?” I asked. A faint shift in his expression, barely noticeable. “No,” he said. “Only when they’re necessary.” Necessary. I looked away again. “That’s one way to describe forcing someone into a marriage.” “I didn’t force you,” he replied calmly. I almost laughed. “You stood in the middle of a room where my reputation was being destroyed and gave me one option.” “You had a choice.” “That didn’t feel like one.” A pause. Then, “It wasn’t supposed to.” I turned to him fully this time. “What?” His gaze met mine, steady. “You needed a clear path,” he said. “Not hesitation.” The honesty in his voice caught me off guard. He wasn’t pretending. He wasn’t softening it. He was telling me exactly what he had done. And somehow… that was worse. “So you decided for me,” I said. “I removed the distractions.” My chest tightened. “By cornering me?” “By protecting you.” The words hung between us. Sharp. Confusing. Dangerous. I held his gaze for a moment longer, searching for something, anything, that would make this make sense. But there was nothing. Just that same calm certainty. “You don’t even know me,” I said finally. “I know enough.” “That’s not an answer.” “It’s the only one you’re getting tonight.” Frustration flared, quick and hot. But it faded just as quickly. Because arguing with him felt… pointless. Like pushing against something that wouldn’t move. The car slowed. Then stopped. I looked out the window, and for a second, I forgot how to breathe. The house,no, the estate, was massive. Modern. Imposing. Perfect in a way that didn’t feel welcoming. Lights lined the long driveway, casting soft shadows across perfectly maintained grounds. It didn’t look like a home. It looked like power. “Are you planning to intimidate me?” I asked quietly. “No,” he said, stepping out of the car. “That would be unnecessary.” I followed him out, the cool night air brushing against my skin. Up close, the place felt even larger. Colder. Like it didn’t belong to the world I knew. The doors opened before we even reached them. Of course they did. Staff stood inside, already waiting. Prepared. Expecting him. A few of them glanced at me,quick, subtle looks before lowering their gaze. Respect. Or fear. Maybe both. “She’ll be staying here,” Adrian said simply as we stepped inside. No introduction. No explanation. Just a statement. “Yes, sir,” one of them replied immediately. Sir. The way they said it told me everything. This wasn’t just his house. This was his territory. And everyone in it knew exactly where they stood. Including me. “Your room is upstairs,” he said, turning slightly toward me. “My room?” “Yes.” A pause. “You didn’t think we’d share one immediately, did you?” Heat rushed to my face before I could stop it. “That’s not what I meant.” “Good.” There was the slightest hint of something in his voice, amusement, maybe, but it disappeared just as quickly as it came. He gestured toward the stairs. “Get some rest. Tomorrow will be… different.” Different. That was one way to put it. “And you?” I asked before I could stop myself. He paused. Then looked back at me. “I’ll handle the aftermath.” Of course he would. Control the narrative. Control the damage. Control everything. I watched him for a moment longer, something uneasy settling in my chest. “You’re very used to this, aren’t you?” I said quietly. “To what?” “Deciding how things end before they even begin.” His gaze didn’t waver. “That’s how you survive,” he said. Then he turned and walked away. Just like that. Leaving me standing there, surrounded by a world that didn’t feel like mine, And a man I didn’t understand. I should have felt relieved. Safe. Protected. Instead… I felt trapped. Because deep down, I knew one thing with absolute certainty— This wasn’t just his world. It was his game. And somehow… I had just become part of it.
