Violet Robbins I grabbed a hat and a scarf before I ran. I didn't even think about food or anything else until I was too far away to turn back. Just before I jumped off the platform, I'd had a crazy idea. Most Tributes were going to go up. It was everyone's instinct to get to higher ground when there was trouble. The Careers would follow them. So I went down. I knew the Arena boundaries were probably at the bottom of the mountain, but I'd go as far as I could, and if I ducked around the other side, I might be able to scrape by. It wouldn't be so cold, either. I didn't want to think about how much worse it would be when the sun set. I didn't notice the headache the thin air had given me until it wasn't there anymore. It felt wonderful to be going downhill. I felt stronger with every step.
