It was almost as though that weekend had never happened. Throughout that week they had been strictly boss and assistant and Eva could help but second guess her decision that weekend.
Out of excitement, she had told Kate about the whole situation, especially when Kate kept interrogating her about the girlfriend issue and why there was a news report about what had happened at the Alvandrez’s event. Kate had been relieved that it was fake news because that would have been quite a shock.
“I mean just last week you said you didn’t like him like that, so yeah, I was shocked to read that my best friend would keep the fact that she was dating our boss a secret from me!”
“We’re not really dating anyway”
Eva said, looking around to make sure no one heard. They were having lunch at the coffee bar in the company’s kitchen and while she was acting“ girlfriend” to the CEO, she realized how even people at work had started to treat her differently and were just generally nicer.
“People won’t even be with us anymore because you’re the "girlfriend" now”
“It can’t get out that it’s not true though, okay?”
“Eva, come on, you know me better than that.”
“yeah,sorry I’m just making sure”,she sighed.
She just wanted to get her meeting his mother out of the way,just as she was thinking about it she felt someone sit next to her and Kate just stared at the person who had just joined their table,Eva turned to see Marcus right beside her and gawked at him in surprise.
“Good afternoon ladies,Kathleen”,he nodded in Kate’s direction then put his arm around Eva like they were actually dating.
Eva just kept gawking at him because she knew Marcus would rather have a concussion than have regular coffee or sit down in the company’s kitchen with employees.
“I’m just going to go now”, Kate said, getting up and basically sprinting out of the room. Now it was just Marcus and a very surprised Eva in the kitchen.
“What are you doing?”, she finally managed to say.
“What do you think?, I’m having dinner with my girlfriend”,he grinned mischievously still keeping his arms around her,she shook him off and glared.
“I already have people avoiding me cause of the rumors,you cannot do this to me, i want to be able to go back to work like a normal person when this is over,I don’t need you coming to the employee’s kitchen to literally confirm things to people but now thanks to you I might literally have to start looking for work elsewhere”
“Now why would you have to do that?!”
“Because...” she groaned, rubbing the sides of her head.
She just explained why to him, and he didn’t seem to understand, typical male behavior!
“Because you’re my boss and your assistant, a breakup between the two of us would supposedly be awkward”
“It won’t, Eva, plus who cares what they think?”
He kissed her on the forehead and gestured for her to get up.
“we going out” he said smiling.
And that was the only explanation he gave her even after she threatened to throw herself out of the back of her car while his driver was driving. Angered, she just refused to speak to him till they arrived in front of a high fashion store.
“I see your wallet is itchy”, she grumbled as he opened the car door for her.
“Oh come on, I’m trying my best to be a gentleman here.”
“Who knew”, she replied sarcastically, though she was pleased.
As soon as they stepped through the doors of the building she felt quite out of place with her office clothes and black leather flats that she wore all the time,but that didn’t last long as she was swept into a frenzy of fabrics and clothing and for most of the afternoon she was just changing in and out of clothes that she would never have thought to buy.
“Do you like this ma’m?”
“Are you comfortable, ma’am?”
“Miss Leighton, do you need anything?”
The staff there just kept fussing over her, and she was soon exhausted from the whole experience, but that was barely anything. They showed her shoes next and accessories, then Marcus dragged her to a jeweler’s place, made her pick out a piece of jewelry to go with the clothes and, at his insistence, an infinity ring.
“It doesn’t have to mean anything okay,I just want you to have it,just think of it as a gift okay, please?”
She finally took it on the condition that she would return it after they were done,Of course he wasn’t going to take it back,they both knew that but he agreed anyway.
“so can I go home now?”,she asked when they were leaving the jewelers.
“Yeah, we’re going home?”
“Uh?!, who’s we?”, Eva asked in confusion.
“ Me and you cupcake”
She stared at him like he was insane, and he looked like he wasn’t going to explain, but he finally got tired of the way she was staring at him.
“We’ll go to my place and from there take a morning flight to London,it’s more practical”
“And you’re just telling me this now?you ’re not even asking or letting me know before hand?”
“I didn’t think--”
“Clearly!”, she interrupted him.
“oh for Godsake, Eva!”
Her hand was pulling on the door handle now, but the car was moving so it didn’t open.
“You were seriously about to step out of a moving car?!”
“Driver stop!”,she yelled
“If you stop this car you’re fired!”,he ordered.
“f**k you Marcus!”,she kept trying the door.
He pulled her to himself and restrained her hands to her sides so she could only glare at him,she was crazy, a mad woman. But for some reason that excited him,He reminded himself to keep it together but her proximity to him made it impossible even for him,he just leaned forward and kissed her hard,she kissed him back too matching his need and level of passion,when they eventually came up for air it was because they had to breathe.
“We’re going to my place…is that okay?”,he told her softly this time,she just nodded in response
