Word for the day - 어디야 (Romanised as 'Eo-di-ya') - Where are you? ##### EMERALD’S POV ----- It was Wednesday today and early in the morning, I received a piece of very happy news. I had received an email saying that I was selected for the job. I was waiting for the small test but I was already given the job. Well, I had an exceptionally good resume, they had to take me in. I was to enlist the Monday of the upcoming week. I was so happy. I stepped out of my room and jogged downstairs to tell this news to Dad. “Dad!” I called out, sprinting down the stairs only to find him on a call. I walked towards him and hugged him from the side. “…that should be done by your side. Yes, do keep me posted.” He asserted and then hung up the call. “My precious, you look happy in the morning.” He noted and I nodded with a big smile. “I am, Daddy,” I confessed in a sweet tone and he gave me a curious look. Anyone could see how pampered I was because I was clinging to him. “What’s it?” He asked, looking at me with his singing eyes. He knew I was going to give him a piece of good news and I aspired to make him proud with the news. “I got the job I had given an interview that day for.” I squealed and he smiled, a proud smile on his face. This was the smile I worked this hard for. I never wanted to disappoint him, ever. “That’s lovely! Can you now reveal the company’s name? I need to make sure it’s a good one.” Dad went on an overprotective mode. The main reason I didn’t tell him the company name was because I didn’t want him to pull any strings for my happiness. “You don’t have to work on it. It’s a well-reputed company. It is…” I was about to tell him when another call for Dad was heard. “Dad!” Kayla squealed and ran to him, hugging him from the other side. Dad wrapped his arm around her, just like he had done to me. “Dad, I just received my dress for the engagement and it’s beautiful. Thank you for helping me select such a beautiful dress.” She declared and Dad kissed her forehead. I whirled his face towards me and pointed to my head. He chuckled before pecking me on the forehead as he had to Kayla. “Such a jealous child.” He commented and I hummed. I was always jealous because she took that little part of attention. “It’s good that my choice is still young.” He muttered looking at Kayla and she laughed. “You’re young forever.” I ended up warning him and he chuckled. “So, what were you saying about the company…” He trailed off and I shook my head. “Forget about that for now. Let’s marry an impatient Kayla off so I can have your love all to myself.” I muttered and he laughed. Kayla scoffed. “You can’t take away my part of love!” Kayla warned and I showed her my tongue in response. “I will. So, get married soon and swoosh.” I teased her and immediately got away from Dad, trying to run and save myself from Kayla. “Emerald, wait!” She yelled before running behind me. I dodged the things while running and suddenly I felt a small tinge in my stomach but it was powerful enough. I rolled over in pain. “Em, are you alright?” Kayla asked and I nodded. She helped me up and carried me to the sofa. She sat me down and soon a glass of water was handed in my hands. I gulped down some water before giving it to her. “Emmie, are you alright?” Dad asked me and I nodded, taking deep breaths at the same time. “Should we call in a doctor?” Dad asked and I shook my head. “I’ll be fine after resting,” I told him and he nodded but he wasn't completely satisfied with my reply. “Eric, make her some warm chicken soup with more ginger,” Dad ordered Eric and he went to take care of the task while I groaned. “Either you drink that or it’s a doctor,” Dad warned me and I hummed, sulking at his suggestion. He knew I hated hospitals or even visiting them. “Let’s get you in bed. You should be resting.” He helped me up to my room. I sat on the bed, slowly sliding down. He tucked me in my bed and caressed my forehead. “You worry me a lot, Emerald.” He said using my full name and I chuckled. “That is so you can give me more of your attention,” I countered him and he chuckled. “You’ve always been a jealous child. You know you both are equal to me, right?” He said and I nodded. “But I could still try and steal more of your love and attention,” I replied and he chuckled with a nod. “Dad, why don’t you read me a book until the soup arrives,” I suggested and he nodded. He picked out my favourite book that was ‘Pride and Prejudice’. “Good choice of book,” I commented and he nodded. “Since it’s your favourite.” He said and I nodded. He sat next to me and read the book from the start. I loved hearing it when he read it for me. Since it was Kayla’s wedding time, he had taken time off for these two weeks and I was glad because I spent more time with him than Kayla. “Why are you always jealous of Kayla, Em?” Dad asked suddenly, pausing in between. “She experienced your love for two years more than me. I’m trying to make up for it.” I told him and he chuckled. “My dear, such a petty child.” He commented and I chuckled. There was a knock on the door and Eric came with soup in his hands. I slowly sat up and Dad kept the book aside. He put the table on the bed and then placed the tray on it. He blew on the soup before putting it in my mouth. I slurped it down even though the strong taste of ginger resided in it. “It’ll pass. Have it, come on.” Dad urged and I nodded through my weird-made face. Slowly, going through the struggle, I finished the soup. I drank some water to rinse the taste from my mouth a little. “Now, go to sleep.” He instructed while removing the table. I nodded and slid down. Drinking the heavy soup had made me lazy and sleepy. “Grammy, your mother is sick so don’t disturb her and take care of her,” Dad warned Grammy, who jumped on the bed. He slowly slept next to me and meowed, as if he followed Dad’s words. Slowly, I closed my eyes, following Dad’s small pats and fell into slumber. ----- It was Friday today and I had no idea how the last two days had gone. Kayla kept on bugging me for every little thing and I wanted to strangle her or at least carry my room to the outer world. “I know, Grammy,” I muttered in response to the meow Grammy did. He was as exhausted as me because he couldn’t just see her annoying face and hear her annoying voice all day long. Actually, it was bearable but the excitement within her made it annoying because I wasn’t excited at all. “Em, is your dress ready? Check it so it won’t have any issues tomorrow.” She clarified, entering my room while texting on the phone. I suddenly had an idea not to go to her engagement. “Even if you have any issues, I have a spare for you, just in case.” She answered and then went away. I wanted to curse her but I was not that cruel. I need to go out. “Miranda, 어디야?” I asked on the call as soon as she picked up. It was a Friday so she mostly was busy finishing up for the weekend. I hoped that wouldn’t be the case though. “I’m lacking inspiration. I’m left with creating one dress but I have no idea.” She muttered, helplessly. I could understand her concern. I glanced at the watch and it was almost lunchtime. “What do you say if I pick up my baby for lunch?” I asked in an encouraging tone and she squealed. “Would love that, honey.” She played along and I chuckled. I heard a small meow and glanced down at Grammy. “Looks like Grammy is wanting to greet you, too,” I said and she hummed. “Bring my son to me. I miss him.” She acted and I chuckled. “We both would’ve come but you know it, it’s his lunchtime, too. You have to come and meet him.” I said to her and she let out a sad whine. “Okay, come soon.” She said and I hung up after humming in response. I went and picked out blue denim shorts with a white tank top. I picked out a black oversized shirt to add on with black sneakers. I took my black small purse to complete my look. Finally, I finished putting on light make-up. I was about to leave when I realised that it was quite sunny even though it was about to be autumn soon. I picked out a black cap. I glanced at Grammy and he was comforting himself in his bed. I chuckled and went to pat him before going down. “Eric, don’t forget to feed Grammy,” I yelled loudly behind me. I heard his response before stepping into the underground parking. ----- I waited outside Miranda’s boutique before I honked loudly. I glanced up and Miranda looked down from the first floor through the glass window. As soon as she saw me, she rushed down. “So, any inspiration yet?” I asked her and she shook her head with a pout. “Let’s go for some good pizza and a small drive. It’ll cheer you up.” I suggested to her and she nodded. ----- We ended up driving on highways before going back to a small pizza place that we found. We both sat in and a waiter took our order. We waited while we both chatted. “I swear, she is just so excited,” I commented pressing on my tone and she chuckled. “It’s her engagement. Stop being so jealous.” Miranda muttered and I groaned. I was so close to pulling my hair but didn't because I had an image to maintain. “I don’t think I’ll be that excited even for my wedding,” I told her and she laughed. “Spare me, Em. I just want to see a guy propose to you, then we’ll talk about your wedding.” Miranda taunted me and I glared at her. “Back at you, hon. Someone can steal your guy at one glance.” I told her and then pointed at my car outside. “If he chooses her, I’ll make him have s*x with her and ask him who was good.” She winked at me and I laughed. Our pizza came and I took in a deep breath, inhaling the mesmerising smell of the pizza but I felt myself gag. I shut my mouth and the waiter who was waiting pointed in a direction. I rushed in that direction, luckily it was close and emptied my breakfast. I took in deep breaths once I was done. Miranda handed me a bottle of water and I took it to first gargle many times and then drink some. “Are you alright, Em?” Miranda asked and I shook my head. “This is the third time this week,” I confessed and she gasped. “We have to go somewhere, right now.” She said and I gave him a confused glance. “Can you please pack this up?” Miranda asked the waiter. She paid and carried the boxes on her own. She kept the boxes in the back and made me sit in the passenger’s seat. I sat inside without arguing because she looked very serious. She sat in the driver’s seat and looked at me. “Keys, Em.” She said extending her hand. I nodded dumbfoundedly before handing over the keys to her. She grabbed them and immediately started the car. “Where are we going, M?” I asked her and she put the car on acceleration, driving it on the main road. “To the hospital.” She answered. ----- P.S - The song from the last chapter is called 'Eyes, Nose, Lips' from Taeyang of Big Bang. You guys should give it a listen to feel the melody of that song.
