I sat in the back seat, staring out the window as the city lights blurred past in a haze of neon and darkness. None of it mattered. None of it was important. Not to me. I kept my eyes on the window, trying to focus on anything but the feeling gnawing at my chest. How had everything spiraled out of control like this? How had I ended up here—again?
